As a seasoned gamer with a keen eye for art and a deep appreciation for the intricacies of design, I must say that the announcement of Dries Van Noten‘s Common Ground exhibition has piqued my interest immensely. Having spent countless hours navigating virtual worlds and exploring digital spaces, this real-life exhibit promises to delve into themes that resonate with my own experiences, particularly the concept of home and identity.
Following his departure from his self-named label in March and the conclusion of his final runway showcase in June, Dries Van Noten has redirected his attention. The designer has unveiled plans for the opening of his “Common Ground” exhibition. According to a press release, this exhibit delves into the complex idea of home through the creations of six contemporary artists.
Today, November 9, an exhibition kicks off at The Little House, which has been carefully put together by Brian Boa, the creator of LA’s Trading Places. This exhibit showcases artwork from artists like EFE, Martine Syms, Mark Lecky, Lloyd Foster, Walid Labri, and Hassan Rahim.
The exhibit encourages visitors to delve into the emotional heart of what ‘home’ means – a place of comfort, safety, self-expression, all tied to ideas of belonging and individuality.
In this setting, EFE and Rahim provide sculptures titled “Prick” and “Fastline” respectively, while Syms, Labri, and Lecky contribute video artworks. Foster’s contribution is a two-faced painting called “Blue,” which subtly proposes the idea of home as a potentially fragile notion of sanctuary.
Across its six pieces, the work titled “Common Ground” seeks to initiate discussions about the impact of domestic surroundings on our personal identities and artistic endeavors, focusing on the ways these environments shape us.
Common Ground will remain on display at The Little House Gallery through mid-December.
Show Dates: From November 9, 2024, to December 14, 2024
