The suspenseful thriller “Drop,” directed by Christopher Landon (known for “Happy Death Day” and “Freaky”), has been confirmed to be released on Peacock. The streaming service under NBCUniversal revealed that viewers can start watching it from this coming Friday, July 11th.
Written by Landon and Chris Roach (Non-Stop, Truth or Dare?), the latest collaboration between Blumhouse and Universal Pictures features Meghann Fahy (Sirens) as Violet, a dedicated psychologist who specializes in helping survivors of abuse and is eager to re-enter the dating scene after focusing on raising her child.
Initially, it appears that Violet is having an ordinary dinner with Henry (Brandon Sklenar from ‘It Ends With Us’), but the situation swiftly escalates into a harrowing reality when she starts receiving AirDropped messages commanding her to assassinate the man sitting opposite her. If she refuses, the threatens that Toby (newcomer Jacob Robinson) and her sister Jen (Violett Beane from ‘The Flash’) will be killed instead.
In an official statement, Landon expressed his desire to pay tribute to the ’90s thrillers, as well as the works of Hitchcock and De Palma, while incorporating a contemporary twist. He found this blend particularly appealing. Additionally, he saw it as an opportunity to create a heartfelt homage to films similar to Wes Craven’s “Red Eye,” a movie he admires and believes is undervalued. For him, it represents a tightly wound, suspenseful thriller.
Producer Jason Blum remarks that Chris has an exceptional skill as a director, managing to infuse movies meant to scare you senseless with fun and heart-pounding excitement. The result is an exhilarating experience where you’re on the edge of your seat, or huddled in fear over what might happen next, yet still enjoying every moment. One of his many strengths lies in nailing the right tone, making him an ideal choice for the film “Drop“.
