Dylan O’Brien Recalls “Really Bad” Audition for ‘Frozen 2’

As a fan who has followed Dylan O’Brien’s career since his days on MTV’s Teen Wolf, it’s always refreshing to see him open up about his experiences, even the ones that didn’t quite go as planned. His audition for Frozen 2 is a prime example of that. It’s heartening to know that even a multi-talented actor like Dylan can have moments where he feels unsure of himself, and it’s endearing to see him share those experiences with such humor and grace.

Dylan O’Brien reflects on an unanticipated audition process for the movie, Frozen 2.

Actor from Saturday Night recently guest-starred on Late Night With Seth Meyers, during which he discussed his unsuccessful tryout for the 2019 animated sequel. In this production, Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel reprised their roles as sisters Anna and Elsa.

O’Brien admitted that he didn’t hold much expectation of getting the part at the audition, as he understood that his chances were slim. He declined to reveal which role he was trying out for.

He mentioned that they were seeking versatile individuals who could both act and sing for their musical movie. Admittedly, he hadn’t verified if he fell into this category or not.

Former “Teen Wolf” star admitted that he isn’t very skilled at singing, but chose to audition anyway because he often feels like more than just an actor. Yet, Meyers pondered over how long it took the casting director to also recognize that singing wasn’t one of O’Brien’s strongest abilities.

The actor expressed sympathy for this woman, recalling that she requested him to reach the chorus due to her eagerness to hear his vocal range. Despite initially struggling in the first verse, O’Brien complied with her request by singing higher, but unfortunately, it didn’t turn out well.

“I knew. She knew. It’s okay,” he quipped, but Meyers asked in response, “Did she know you knew?”

He recollected, ‘Yes, that’s my belief, as she responded to me with not one but two ‘okays.’ A moment I’ll always remember. Then she added, ‘Thank you for your visit. I feel we might require a more powerful vocalist,’ and I was already agreeing, saying ‘I understand.’ I simply replied, ‘Thank you for having me.'” (The Maze Runner actor reminisced)

As a gamer, I can’t help but look back at that audition with nothing but warm feelings. To be honest, it’s one of those experiences I cherish. And let me tell you, Jimmy, I’m genuinely glad they decided to bring up this topic during your interview.

The host joked that they hoped it would bring a sense of finality for you, isn’t that clear, Dylan?” The actor replied, “It has actually given me a sense of peace. I assure you, I’m being sincere!
