Dylan Sprouse Reveals Why He Refused to Tell a Scripted “Fat Joke” About ‘Suite Life’ Co-Star Kim Rhodes

As a fan who has grown up watching Dylan Sprouse grace our screens since his early days on Disney Channel, I must say that he continues to impress me with his maturity and integrity. His stance against fat jokes, even at such a young age when many might have just gone along with it, speaks volumes about his character.

Dylan Sprouse chose not to make a pre-written “weight joke” about his on-screen mother from Suite Life of Zack & Cody, played by Kim Rhodes, during the show’s run, and he’s now explaining his reasons behind this decision.

While discussing his upcoming movie “The Duel” on Andy Cohen’s Radio Andy SiriusXM show on Thursday, the actor admitted that he simply doesn’t find such humorous jokes amusing.

“He informed the host, ‘There might be a more amusing jest elsewhere, unless this one is making fun of yourself.’ In other words, if it’s not self-deprecating humor, which I enjoy, but rather poking fun at others based on their appearance, then I usually don’t find it humorous.'”

In November 2023, Rhodes appeared on the “Back to the Best” podcast and shared an incident from her pregnancy days. She mentioned that during a scene, the writers had inserted a joke about her weight, which Sprouse consistently avoided saying. The executive producer then halted the production, instructing Sprouse to deliver the joke, but he refused.

“She remembered saying, ‘He commented, “I wouldn’t treat any woman disrespectfully, especially not her. If you come up with something amusing, I’ll repeat it,”‘ regarding Dylan and Cole Sprouse. On the set of Suite Life, they consistently looked out for everyone, a testament to their maturity at such a young age, as they recognized it was their duty to ensure everyone could perform their tasks.”

During last Thursday’s radio broadcast, Cohen commended Sprouse for his boldness in expressing such a sentiment to an executive producer at just 14 or 15 years of age.

“The actor from ‘Beautiful Disaster’ playfully commented that having his own show at age 11 significantly boosted his self-assurance, to which the host responded by calling him a kind monarch. Sprouse acknowledged this and shared that, despite being a larger boy, he didn’t truly blossom until he was around 18. He also mentioned that his father always kept them very humble.”
