As a gamer who has devoted countless hours to the FIFA series for over a decade, I must admit that my initial reactions to EA FC 25 were underwhelmed and skeptical. The game didn’t immediately present itself as a radical departure from its predecessor, and I began to question whether EA had run out of ideas. However, upon closer inspection, I came to realize that this iteration offers more than meets the eye.
For avid fans like me, who have invested over a hundred hours into each installment of EA’s Football series for the past decade, there might be subtle differences between one annual release and another that less devoted fans may not notice.
In the beginning, I want to clarify that during my initial games of EA FC 25, I found myself unsure of what enhancements had been made. A sense of apprehension crept in as I began to question if Electronic Arts had exhausted their creativity in football gameplay. However, it was then that a realization struck me – or more accurately, it was Erling Haaland who delivered the impactful moment.
Starting with a thud
Swinging a deep free-kick toward the opposing team’s zone, I headed the ball back towards the goal. Manchester City’s star forward jumped up to meet it, scoring but unfortunately colliding with the goalpost in the process.
Instead of describing it in relation to EA FC 24 with an awkward wrapping motion, Haaling struck it forcefully, accompanied by a fresh animation.
At that moment, I understood that my perspective on EA FC 25 was incorrect. It’s not about completely overhauling and beginning anew, which is a common theme in FIFA games. Instead, it appears to be thoughtful enhancements built upon last year’s version, making the game feel more authentic to real-life soccer.
As a soccer fan, I’ve often found myself frustrated when an opponent manages to outmaneuver my defender for a potential game-changing goal during a counterattack. But with tactical fouls, I can now take control of the situation in FIFA by pressing and holding R1 while tapping X to disrupt their advance. It may not always result in a fair play, but it certainly adds an extra layer of strategy and excitement to the game!
As a gamer, I can tell you that EA is working hard to add more football smarts into their game. While there are certainly some fresh animations, the most significant improvements can be found in the minds of the players in FIFA 25 from EA Sports.
IQ test
As a football enthusiast, I’m excited about the latest trend in the sports world – Football IQ. For teams that have typically relied on traditional formations and just a few adjustments with sliders, this new concept represents a significant shift.
Football IQ allows you to customize your team’s positions for a more strategic gameplay experience. Instead of keeping your full-back in the traditional role, you can transform them into a “false back” – a position similar to that of Zinchenko, where they move closer and central when in possession of the ball. Alternatively, your attacking midfielder can assume a “shadow striker” role, taking on more responsibilities upfront alongside the main striker.
In simpler terms, some players excel more in specific roles just like individuals have their strengths in real life. For instance, Haaland, our large Viking from Manchester City, is exceptional as a poacher but may not be as proficient in other roles.
As a gamer, I’ve noticed that the roles of my players can be influenced by tactics as well. It was a delightful experience when I intentionally employed overload tactics against Manchester City and saw my full-backs being pushed to their limits. Similarly, discovering the extra space for Trent Alexander-Arnold while using Liverpool’s tactics was an effective strategy that paid off handsomely.
In simpler terms, Football IQ reaches beyond the field, influencing career modes and intricate set piece adjustments. This means you can design corner plays as effectively as Nicolas Jover. Although the menu initially seemed awkward to use, with time it will likely become as familiar as FIFA’s Ultimate Team.
Rush Goalie
Regrettably, Volta has ceased to exist, making way for an invigorating new Rush mode. In this mode, ten players face off against each other on a compact pitch, which is situated inside a brand-new Nike Arena.
In Rush, offsides and fouls are less strictly enforced, allowing for more freedom in positioning. Players like Foden can make late tackles, and Van Dijk can even play as a forward. It’s reminiscent of informal playground games, but in Rush, these rules feel more seamlessly incorporated rather than an optional extra.
As a long-time fan of Electronic Arts’ FIFA series, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news about the latest addition to Ultimate Team: Rush. This feature allows players to enjoy an authentic and intense small-sided football experience with friends, in Clubs, or even in Career Mode. And let me tell you, as someone who has spent countless hours building and managing my own teams over the years, this new mode is a game-changer.
As a gamer, I’d describe it like this: It’s a more playful take on football, but don’t be fooled, it shares the fundamental mechanics of EA Football Club. So, even though it may look different with its unique dribbling style, it’s not a completely new ball game to master as if learning Volta from scratch.
Here we go!
Although we could only engage in a few rounds of Rush and traditional 11vs11 games, EA is creating an exciting buzz with EA FC 25.
In the Career Mode upgrade, there are significant changes including the introduction of women’s leagues careers and the Youth Academy. Customization takes on greater importance, and elements of fantasy football are incorporated into the experience.
As a passionate football manager, I’m excited about Live Start Points, a feature EA Sports introduced post-launch that allows me to begin my management journey from a specific date in the game’s calendar. This means I can jump right into the action and take control of a player like Jadon Sancho at the exact moment he returns to Borussia Dortmund following his loan spell with Manchester United. The goal is to help him succeed and lead the team to victory in the Champions League.
In the realm of fantasy football, EA is adding certain players as standout figures in the career mode. These designations are not required, but I’m excited to bring legends like Thierry Henry into my Arsenal squad and observe how they perform in today’s Premier League action.
The coaching team’s impact will be greater now, as tiki-taka specialists can enhance the skills of players suited for that methodology, and gegenpress coaches can assist in more forceful playing styles as illustrative examples. Additionally, you can search for promising talent in a broader range of countries, including 160, and Fabrizio Romano will publicize your new acquisition through an updated social media platform by exclaiming “Here we go!”
Final Thoughts
I’ve played FIFA and EA Sports Football Club for many years, and I must admit, I’m really looking forward to the new installment in the series, even though it seems familiar at first glance.
Delve just a little bit further into EA FC 25, and you may discover an impressive advancement in the realm of virtual football.
