As a seasoned gamer with a keen eye for design, I must admit that my heart skipped a beat when I laid eyes on Earth To People‘s debut furniture collection. Having spent countless hours immersed in virtual worlds, I’ve always been captivated by the harmonious blend of nature and technology – a balance that this collection seems to embody effortlessly.
Nestled amidst the verdant forests of British Columbia, Earth To People’s debut furniture collection presents a series of unassuming designs that echo the timeless grandeur of ancient monoliths constructed by civilizations long past. Though these pieces may seem straightforward at first glance, every detail – from the choice of wood to the joinery and even the eco-friendly adhesives – is the result of techniques refined over millennia with a keen focus on sustainability. As a passionate admirer of their work, I can’t help but marvel at the harmonious blend of modern functionality and ancient craftsmanship that Earth To People has so skillfully achieved.
Instead of conventional wooden furniture that may come from environmentally damaging logging operations, Earth To People’s collection uniquely utilizes wood from trees felled by strong winds and storms. The source of these trees is the forest region of Squamish, British Columbia, where two chair models are believed to be made from trees up to 300-400 years old. In contrast to industrial manufacturing’s use of toxic adhesives, Earth To People hand-carves cuts from the wind-felled trees and binds them together using pure resin collected from Pine and Cedar tree sap.
A set of aluminum lighting pieces crafted from recycled metal obtained from a nearby recycling facility sits alongside two sleek chair designs. The studio found inspiration in the old art of reusing metal, dating back to around 400 B.C., and incorporated this into their designs. Geometric shapes are prominent, with a sconce that casts a gentle light through a square of brushed metal and a table lamp that emits its light from a compact cylinder being key features.
The Aluminum Floor Lamp is undoubtedly the star of the lighting setup, exuding an exceptionally mysterious charm. Its tall metallic base, featuring a long vertical slit, emits soft light reminiscent of ancient stone structures aligned with cosmic phenomena, such as those found in prehistoric cultures. Despite its ancient influences, the entire collection manages to preserve a contemporary feel, making it a versatile fit for both modern and traditional interior designs.
Established in the picturesque Catskill Mountains of New York in 2023, Earth To People is a design studio based on age-old caretaking values.
