Ed Harris Reveals Shocking Reasons Behind ‘The Ploughman’ Delay!

Over a prolific acting career spanning many years, Ed Harris has received much acclaim for his roles in movies like “Westworld”, “Snowpiercer”, “The Abyss”, and “The Truman Show”. However, he’s not just an actor – he’s also a skilled director who successfully directed and starred in films such as “Pollock” (2000) about the renowned painter Jackson Pollack, and “Appaloosa” (2008). Currently, Harris is working on getting his next film produced, and he recently discussed with Collider the reasons for its lengthy delay.

In a conversation about “My Dead Friend Zoe,” Harris shared challenges he faced in producing his upcoming film, “The Ploughman.” He emphasized the hardship of securing funds for independent cinema, expressing that it’s particularly challenging.

As a movie enthusiast and aspiring director, I find myself in a bit of a predicament. Securing the necessary financing for my independent film project has proven challenging, as it seems this production might require more resources than initially anticipated. I’ve been diligently trying to cut costs wherever possible, but I’m unwilling to compromise on the quality and production values that I believe this film deserves.

The question remains: Should I settle for a shoestring budget or aim for something more substantial? It’s a dilemma that leaves me uncertain. Fingers crossed that before my time runs out, I get another opportunity to bring a vision to life on the silver screen.

The Ploughman”

This captivating narrative derives from Kim Zupan’s 2014 novel of the same title, earning recognition as NPR’s Best Book of the year. The story unfolds in Montana, revolving around John Gload, a 77-year-old suspect awaiting trial, and Valentine Millimaki, a member of the local sheriff’s department assigned to the overnight shift. During their conversations, they discover unexpected similarities that shape the narrative.

In 2017, Harris acquired the rights to the novel, with anticipation that Stacey Keach would play the character Gload. However, in 2021, it was revealed that Robert Duvall and Garrett Hedlund were set to star in the film; but unfortunately, this arrangement didn’t materialize.

Last year, I learned some exciting news about an upcoming project: Nick Nolte, Owen Teague, Bill Murray, Amy Madigan (Harris’ wife), and Lily Harris (their daughter) were all set to be a part of it. However, since then, it seems like the film has been stuck in development hell with no further updates.

Apart from stating his dissatisfaction, Harris admitted that it has been almost two decades since he last directed a film, lamenting, “I truly enjoy directing, and the last time I did so was for Appaloosa, around 18 years back. That’s just terrible. It’s tough to kick-start something new.
