In the 2025 TV lineup, Season 8 of 9-1-1 continues, with viewers witnessing how Eddie’s relocation to Texas affects his workmates. Ryan Guzman‘s character disclosed in the midseason finale that he intended to return to El Paso to be near his son, and while Buck initially struggled with this news, he eventually came to terms with it. Last week, viewers caught a glimpse of Eddie’s life in Texas, and there was one scene that Guzman found especially challenging to shoot.

In the recent episode titled “Disconnected”, it emerged that Eddie has been in Texas for three weeks and is yet to fully adjust. Despite applying for a job at a firehouse, he was unsuccessful due to a hiring freeze. Consequently, as he had already made a down payment on a house requiring repairs, he needed alternative sources of income. To address this, he opted to work as a rideshare driver and swapped his truck for something more environmentally friendly. Guzman shared with TVLine how poignant that scene was for him on a personal level.

I couldn’t help but feel terrible when we filmed that scene. It was as if I were saying, “I understand the value of this truck, and I grasp why he’s going through with it—it’s all for a noble purpose. Yet, here I am, still powerless to change the situation. This is just disheartening.

Given that Eddie has decided to stay in Texas temporarily, it’s unlikely that he will regain his truck, or any vehicle, while he continues working as a rideshare driver. His extensive background includes military service, firefighting, emergency medical services, and 9-1-1 dispatching. In theory, adapting to the role of a rideshare driver shouldn’t be overly challenging for him due to his diverse experience.

Despite Eddie relocating, it’s great that Ryan Guzman hasn’t departed the series yet. Furthermore, it’s comforting to know that Eddie and Buck are maintaining their connection via FaceTime. I remain hopeful that Eddie will eventually rejoin the 118 team, perhaps with his truck included in the return.
