Eddie’s Move to Texas: 9-1-1 EP’s Comments Spark Concerns

Spoilers ahead for 9-1-1 Season 8, Episode 9, “Sob Stories.” Read with caution!

9-1-1 resumes on the 2025 TV lineup for Season 8, picking up from where it left off with a significant cliffhanger. My anxiety over Ryan Guzman’s character, Eddie, leaving for Texas to reconnect with his son, Christopher, has been growing since the midseason finale last year. The return of the series only intensified that concern, and more recent comments by Executive Producer Tim Minear have added fuel to my apprehensions.

In the eighth season’s ninth episode titled “Sob Stories,” Eddie’s Texas relocation seemed increasingly likely as his house showings were repeatedly sabotaged by Buck. Eventually, Buck took over the lease and made a down payment on a house. While Guzman hasn’t confirmed if he’s leaving or not, producer Minear hinted to Entertainment Weekly that fans might have reason to be concerned about Eddie departing from the 118 and heading to Texas instead.

Eddie has made an initial payment towards purchasing a house, intending to renovate it while reuniting with his son. Consequently, we’re rooting for him to mend their relationship; however, it’s bittersweet that he’ll be leaving.

As a movie reviewer, I must confess that the recent departure of Eddie from the 118 fire department left me feeling akin to a loyal viewer who’s just lost their favorite character. The fact that he once vacated his position to devote more time to Christopher hints at a possible temporary absence, but the undercurrent of change in the air suggests a significant shift is imminent.

Despite the general support for Eddie’s decision within the 118, I find myself aligning with Buck – I don’t want him to go. The camaraderie and chemistry between the characters are what make this show so compelling, and the prospect of Eddie’s departure leaves a noticeable void. Only time will tell if this move is permanent or temporary, but one thing remains certain: change is in the air for our beloved 118.

Currently, the duration of this storyline remains uncertain, but regrettably, the ending appears predictable. Since Christopher relocated to Texas to reside with Eddie’s parents following his discovery of Eddie with a woman resembling his deceased mother, Eddie has been struggling significantly. It seemed inevitable that he would reach his breaking point, and given that Christopher was adapting well in Texas, he knew the right course of action. Although I believe this decision is logical, considering it involves his son, it does not imply my approval.

At a minimum, with Eddie in Texas, it will undoubtedly make for an intriguing development as the 118 continues its journey. Buck appears particularly affected by this move and intentionally revealed the news at the firehouse before informing anyone else. Despite appearing to come to terms with it at the end of the episode, it’s likely that he’ll find it challenging when the time comes to bid farewell. Adding to his struggle is the ongoing aftermath of his breakup with Tommy.

As a Movie Enthusiast: I would usually pay $10.99 a month I’m thrilled to share that I can now enjoy the Disney Plus and Hulu bundle for just $2.99 a month for the next four months! That’s a whopping 72% off, which means I save more than ever before. This amazing deal was popular last year during Black Friday but this time it’s here in March, giving me an early treat. Although new and returning customers won’t get the discounted rate for the full year as they did during Black Friday, I’m still excited about the opportunity to watch my favorite shows at a reduced price for the first four months of my subscription.

Expires March 30View Deal

Regardless of whether Eddie’s relocation to Texas turns out to be temporary or permanent, it promises to make an engaging and possibly challenging narrative. Since his debut in the second season, Eddie has been a significant character on the 118, and his departure will undoubtedly leave a gap. To find out what unfolds, you can catch up with Eddie’s journey every Thursday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC, or stream previous episodes if you have a Hulu subscription.
