- Very good battery life
- Noise cancelling that feels perfect
- Water resistant too
As a seasoned audiophile with a touch of nostalgia for the good old days of wired earbuds, I must admit that the Edifier NeoDots have certainly won my heart (and ears) over. The battery life on these bad boys is nothing short of impressive, and their noise-cancelling capabilities are just perfection – a feature I never knew I needed until now!
I find myself nostalgic for the era of wired earbuds. Nowadays, everything needs charging and appears so small it could slip out of my pocket accidentally. Perhaps I’m just getting older and prefer something less prone to being misplaced, but I must admit I’m amazed by how rapidly technology has advanced! The Edifier NeoDots are a remarkable set of earbuds that excel in delivering music quality.
Looks
The NeoDots by Edifer are available in two color options: black or white. These earbuds come with a sizable charging case that you’ll need to use for recharging. The earbuds have a medium-sized casing, but additional smaller and larger options can be swapped out. Alongside the earbuds, a short USB to USB-C charging cable is provided. The earbuds themselves are slightly larger than standard with a more substantial base, which could potentially aid in noise cancellation. The case and earbuds snap together magnetically and close securely using magnets as well. In terms of size and weight, they’re comparable to the Apple AirPods Pro.
Battery Life
Along with the included cable, you can charge the case wirelessly as well. Both the case and the earbuds take about an hour and a half to fully charge, with the battery life of the Edifier NeoDots being around 12 to 17 hours, while the case can hold 28 to 39 hours. It’s a lot of battery time and almost makes up for the fact that I do not have a cable with me at all times. A green light on the front of the case indicates if it’s charged or needs charging.
ConneX App
Like most Edifier products, the ConneX App can be used to change various settings on your earbuds. There is a dedicated Game Mode, along with individual volume controls for each ear, the ability to change the song you are listening to, and fully customisable Gains – not that I really understand what any of that does. The Edifier NeoDots do feel like a really big step up, if you like that sort of control.
Thoughts
Regarding the Edifier NeoDots and my personal experience, while I won’t delve into every detail about these earbuds, I was immediately struck by their sound quality. Initially, there were numerous plastic coverings around the device that made a crinkling noise when I first inserted them until I located the tab and removed one of the covers.
I feel like the noise cancelling is absolutely fantastic and the music itself is very clear and crisp. My main issue with the earbuds is that they try to be smart in a way that I dislike. When I take off one earbud to listen to someone speak or something, it automatically pauses all of the music. I found this to be really strange – the music automatically started again when I put in the other earbud or after a long moment with one of them out. I am not sure if this is useful to everyone, as I often pull an earbud in and out, especially with the noise cancelling.
It’s great that these earbuds are water-resistant, ensuring they can handle an accidental dip in a puddle without getting damaged. Moreover, their build quality feels robust and sturdy.
