EGONLAB FW25 Incites a Witch Hunt

For the Fall/Winter 2025 season, EGONLAB presents their collection titled “S4LEM,” which dives into a realm reminiscent of witch hunts. Inspired by the real-life Salem Witch Trials, designers Florentin Glémarec and Kévin Nompeix use this historical event as a metaphor to criticize exclusionary practices prevalent in modern society. Rather than portraying sorcery, this collection focuses on highlighting the discrimination faced by minorities and marginalized groups.

The design explores themes of hardship and tenacity by creatively using conventional materials, shapes, and textures in unusual ways. For instance, denim pants showcase a “wet look” achieved through an induction method similar to melted wax. Buttons on formal attire and outerwear appear dented and cracked, while belts follow unconventional paths around the body, symbolizing self-restraint.

Magical touches are subtly incorporated into the design pieces: bat-shaped flowers, often referred to as witch flowers, adorn work jackets and avant-garde dresses with large fringes of leather, while the Ouroboros snake, a symbol of renewal, weaves its way through the color palette: brown, black, purple, with hints of powdery pink, pale beige, and deep red. Simultaneously, hair serves as the foundation for accessories, connecting pearl necklaces that signify the strong connection between people and their wardrobe.

Significantly, the line featured a rockstar-themed capsule from Zadig&Voltaire, containing leather garments like tops and pants adorned with vintage studs. Thierry Gillier, the founder of Zadig&Voltaire, expressed, “Upon encountering EGONLAB, I instantly recognized the potential harmony between our brands. We both embody a free-thinking, nonconformist attitude. It’s our means of forging our own paths. Our bond with artists and musicians, a creative community that inspires us, is strong. Together, we enjoy defying norms, stirring curiosity, inciting thought, and igniting desire.
