In the Elden Ring, the swift and fierce Equilibrious Beast known as Libra, a Nightreign boss, seamlessly blends various attack sequences and escalates fury with nearly every strike, inducing madness. Unlike certain Night Lord adversaries, Libra possesses strategies to dominate much of the battlefield, even when its focus is fixed on a single character. Mastering mobility and tactically deploying ultimate skills are crucial for victory in this encounter.
In simpler terms, our Elden Ring Nightreign Equilibrious Beast boss guide explains Libra’s moves and vulnerabilities, offering suggestions for effective team pairings to help you conquer this battle more efficiently.

Should you make a deal with the Scale-Bearing Merchant?
The decision to strike a deal with Libra hinges on the terms of the agreement. Some provisions may lead to unfavorable consequences, like enhancing Libra’s resistance to damage or resurrecting the boss upon defeat. However, others might not pose significant issues. For instance, during my gameplay as Recluse, I faced a choice between boosting Incantation or magic power, at the expense of a sorcery type I wasn’t utilizing, or by strengthening Libra’s spellcasting abilities. Always take time to review the details so you are fully aware of what’s at stake.
As a gamer, I find that when I strike at Libra without chatting first or turning down a potential deal, it seems like there aren’t any adverse effects noticeable in the game. The combat simply carries on as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened.
Libra attacks and counters
Unlike certain Night Lords, Libra lacks a distinct second phase and boasts only a limited number of attacks. However, as its health dwindles, it becomes increasingly reliant on these attacks, using them more frequently, such as the clouds of insanity, or making them swifter and more potent, like with its madness symbols.
Staff smash
- Libra performs a three-hit staff combo–two horizontal strikes, followed by a powerful overhead slam. The overhead attack has a slightly longer delay. Libra may use variations of this pattern, with multiple horizontal strikes before using the overhead smash
- Dodge toward Libra to evade all three and give yourself a little extra time to land a hit, if you’re on the offensive
Rotating madness sigil
- Libra summons a single sigil that fires a beam of madness-infused energy. This sigil rotates around the boss in a circle
- Dodge sideways in the direction that it’s approaching from–if it’s coming from your right, for example, dodge through it to the right
Rain of madness
- Libra builds a circle of deep orange clouds above itself. The clouds rain down madness after a few seconds
- Libra also uses a weaker version of this attack with three bursts of madness rain in a smaller range
- Retreat away from Libra so you aren’t under the clouds or rain
Madness sigils
- Libra summons large sigils that appear under you and, after a few seconds, explode with madness-infused energy. During frenzy phases and later in the battle, Libra will summon more of these at a faster pace, often while using other attacks
- Dodge out of the sigil as soon as it appears
Building madness
- Libra remains still while the air turns orange and your madness meter gradually builds. Once Libra finishes chanting, your madness meter maxes out, and you take extensive damage
- Interrupt Libra with an ultimate art. If that’s not possible or if it fails to stagger them, focus on collecting the little orange diamonds scattered around. These cleanse a small amount of madness and let you survive the final burst
Frenzied shield
- Libra creates a sphere of energy around itself. If uninterrupted, Libra completes the shield, causes a small explosion, and takes less damage while the shield lasts. If you break it, Libra enters a frenzied state with double attack speed
- If you’ve got a good grasp on Libra’s patterns already, it’s often worth just dealing with the shield’s increased damage resistance instead of having to put up with a relentless barrage of attacks. If you feel up to it, though, shatter the shield with an ultimate art, such as the Ironeye’s or Wylder’s. Extended uses of dragon breath Incantations can also break the shield, though the Recluse is usually the only one with an FP pool large enough to pull it off
Libra weaknesses
The boss-selection interface indicates that Libra inflicts chaos damage and is vulnerable to chaos damage as well. Although Libra doesn’t appear to be affected by the chaos ailment like other adversaries, who take increased damage after a certain duration, it can be confirmed that this boss takes additional damage from chaos-based weapons and spells.
It can be challenging to locate Madness Camps on the map as they don’t appear frequently. If they don’t align with your character build, Libra may experience frostbite and bleeding issues. For this situation, or if the weapons from a Madness Camp aren’t suitable for you, consider using ice weapons, spells, katanas, daggers that cause bleeding, or, if fortunate, a bow with the blood loss effect.
By the second day, if none of the weapons appeal to you, allocate some time towards obtaining Smithing Stone 2 from Limveld’s mines instead. This will allow you to enhance the weapons you currently have, ensuring they deal significant damage, regardless of not being able to leverage Libra’s vulnerabilities.
Best team combinations for Libra
- Three Ironeye
- Two Ironeye, one Raider, Duchess, or Wylder
- One Ironeye, one Recluse, one Wylder or Raider
In this battle, Libra tends to act swiftly, usually focusing on one team member or employing close-combat tactics. To keep pressure on the enemy and ensure coverage when Libra targets a teammate or you’re out of its attack radius, you’ll want at least one character with ranged abilities. Additionally, an essential aspect for this fight is an ultimate skill that inflicts damage on enemies. This could be the Wylder, Ironeye, Guardian, or Raider. During certain phases of the battle, Libra may begin to construct a protective shell, which if left intact, boosts the boss’s resistance to all attacks for several minutes. The Executor’s ultimate can be helpful but might not always be potent enough to shatter the shell before it forms.
Ironeye stands out as an optimal pick due to its reduced dependence on fortunate item drops. It can inflict significant damage merely by enhancing its regular bow, and one strike from its ultimate is sufficient to break Libra’s shell before it hardens. The Recluse is equally valuable, particularly if you acquire a spell or Incantation linked to madness. However, its requirement for item drops to strengthen Magic Cocktail spells may lead to using only Glintstone Pebble during the fight, which might limit your offensive capabilities.
Considering the Duchess as another viable option might be beneficial. While she doesn’t inflict damage, her increased agility with extra dodges and a broader evasion timeframe can help dodge Libra’s staff attacks more effectively and flee from madness sigils before they become active.
