Today’s reveal of FromSoftware’s Elden Ring Nightreign overview trailer gave me two pieces of information: firstly, the beloved Dark Souls character, Solaire, returns; secondly, I anticipate plunging even further into a state of madness.
In the secure hideaway of Nightreign’s green Roundtable Hold, players will have an option to change their characters’ looks by exchanging them with predefined armor sets, which can be acquired using the game’s internal currency known as Marks.
As a gamer, I’m excited to discover that by earning Marks in the game, I can unveil fresh costumes and customize my character’s appearance – the Nightfarer! These unique outfits let me express my personal style within the game. Some of these costumes might seem familiar, adding an extra layer of excitement to the experience.
Currently, the trailer highlights three evocative appearances: Ringfinger Leonhard’s ensemble from Dark Souls 3, an adaptation of the Faraam armor set from Dark Souls 2 (with Nightreign featuring its Dark Souls 3 variant), and what appears to be a grander, more regal incarnation of Solaire’s smiley attire.
“SOLAIRE IS BACK,” a popular Reddit post screams across the universe.
In response to ‘Praise the sun!’, there’s an amusing fan-made image of Solaire with a large rear end.
While some may find daydreaming about Solaire’s large stature incredibly gratifying, I, on the other hand, am more of a fact-finding enthusiast when it comes to FromSoftware games. Upon witnessing Solaire and his companions in Nightreign’s introductory trailer, my instinct was to investigate the cosmetics showcased. However, my research uncovered… nothing.
It seems that the costume designs of the drow witch Recluse’s “Dawn” and “Darkness” outfits might be influenced by Gwynevere from Dark Souls and Yuria from Demon’s Souls, respectively. Additionally, I find a resemblance between the haunted doll Revenant, with its brief appearances in the Nightreign trailer, and the frosty boss Crossbreed Priscilla from Dark Souls.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be waist-deep in Wikipedia.
