Elden Ring Nightreign’s top modder claims the game could theoretically support “up to 127 players” somewhere down the line

The modder responsible for introducing smooth cooperative play across FromSoftware’s game collection – such as Sekiro Online, the seamless co-op in Elden Ring, and most recently Dark Souls Remastered – has now shifted focus towards enhancing the player capacity in Elden Ring Nightreign.

In a recent update on their Patreon, Yui mentioned plans for expanding the player limit in the Elden Ring Nightreign seamless co-op mod. They mentioned that they had previously increased the player count in a similar game and hinted at the possibility of doing so again. If the current player limit is exceeded, it could potentially accommodate any number of players.

The modder stated, “Expanding the mod to accommodate four players could theoretically support up to 127 players (with limitations due to performance). After implementing the necessary adjustments, it essentially boils down to increasing the player count.” In essence, the phrase “performance limiting” is carrying a significant burden, as performance will play a crucial role in determining how many players can participate.

Initially, the modder managed to set up a demo for a two-player mod shortly after the game’s launch. Now, it appears they’re exploring the boundaries of their capabilities, likely focusing more on this as FromSoftware moves forward with developing an official two-player mode.

Yui additionally brings up intriguing suggestions for modifications, particularly Player vs Player (PvP) scenarios, either through duels and mutual damage, or invasions, which could significantly enhance the game since it currently lacks PvP. Combining this with a player count of 127 suggests that Elden Ring Nightreign is edging closer to emulating FromSoft’s version of Fortnite.
