Six years have passed since Todd Howard initially unveiled The Elder Scrolls 6 to its enthusiasts. Many had hoped that the game would be released within just a few more years. Regrettably, as we approach 2025, neither a complete trailer nor even the game itself has been made available.
Given that Bethesda Game Studios has shifted their focus from Starfield to The Elder Scrolls 6, it’s clear that the Role-Playing Game (RPG) will likely not be available for several more years.
Day by day, fans’ anticipation grows more intense for a fresh installment in the Elder Scrolls series. However, some fans, weary of the wait, have decided to take matters into their own hands and transform the teaser into a fully playable game on their own.
Fans plan to develop Elder Scrolls 6 themselves
It’s generally agreed that what makes exceptional video games stand out is their lengthy development process. Yet, the wait for these games can be frustrating, especially when they take 5-6 years or more to complete, as is often the case. This prolonged anticipation seems particularly intense among fans of “The Elder Scrolls” series, given that it’s been nearly 14 years since a new game in the franchise was released.
Since the initial preview of Elder Scrolls 6 in 2018, fans have been eagerly anticipating updates about the game, from its narrative, locations, and characters. Given that the game is still in its early stages of development, it’s unlikely we’ll get any news soon, which has left many fans feeling impatient. Some believe creating a modded version of Elder Scrolls 6 could be an appealing alternative while they wait for the official release.
It’s important to recognize that the idea we’re discussing is not just a meme or fan joke; it carries significant weight, especially in relation to Bethesda’s game communities. These communities, responsible for modifying games like Skyrim and Fallout 4, have kept these titles alive even after a decade with minimal official support.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve been blown away by the incredible creations of the Elder Scrolls modding community, particularly the epic undertaking known as Skyblivion. For those who might not be in the know, Skyblivion began as a simple port of Oblivion into Skyrim but has since morphed into a full-scale remake. Frankly, I thought this project was beyond reach, but here we are, with a release just on the horizon!
Given the incredible achievements of the Elder Scrolls fanbase, it’s quite possible that the next Elder Scrolls title could end up on Nexus Mods if Bethesda doesn’t manage their development effectively.
Will Elder Scrolls 6 meet our expectations?
Previously discussed, it’s now 14 years since the launch of Skyrim, and when Elder Scrolls 6 finally arrives, the time between the main series games will grow even wider.
Given the extended period of anticipation, it’s clear that many hopes are pinned on “The Elder Scrolls 6”. Will Bethesda be able to fulfill these expectations? Time alone can provide an answer, but here’s what Bruce Nesmith, a developer who has worked on Starfield and Fallout in the past, thinks.
In essence, The Elder Scrolls 6 is expected to be a fantastic game, but its quality will inevitably be judged against other games produced by Bethesda. Similarly, every studio’s new releases are often compared to their past works.
Bruce is saying that it’s nearly impossible for Elder Scrolls 6 to live up to all the lofty expectations set for it. While the game will no doubt be impressive, it will constantly be compared to Bethesda’s past successes. No matter what the outcome, Bethesda can’t avoid being judged by their history as they launch the next installment of the series.
Let’s remember the lofty anticipations surrounding Starfield, and how they compared to its eventual outcome. This could provide insight into what might transpire when Elder Scrolls 6 is ultimately released. As a developer, it must be challenging for Bethesda to live up to such expectations, as it limits their creative freedom and encourages a more conventional approach.
