Elijah Wood Comedy ‘Bookworm’ Sells Wide

As a film enthusiast with a penchant for offbeat comedies and adventure tales, I can’t help but be thrilled about the upcoming release of “Bookworm” starring Elijah Wood and Nell Fisher. The story of an 11-year-old girl and her estranged father on a quest to find the mythical Canterbury Panther sounds like a rollercoaster ride I simply can’t miss!

Mister Smith Entertainment has successfully sealed several deals for the distribution of the adventure-comedy film titled “Bookworm“, featuring Elijah Wood and Nell Fisher in the lead roles, across various international markets.

The story revolves around 11-year-old Mildred (Fisher), whose life takes an unexpected twist when her long-absent father, disheveled Las Vegas illusionist Strawn Wise (Wood), resurfaces. With Mildred’s mother hospitalized, the responsibility for care falls on Strawn, and together they embark on a journey to locate the legendary Canterbury Panther. This journey is directed by Ant Timpson, who brought us “Come to Daddy.

Mr. Smith finalized agreements for the movie with Photon Films in Canada, Metropolitan in France, Plaion Pictures in Germany, Italy, and Switzerland, as well as La Aventura in Spain, among other countries. Earlier this year, Vertical Entertainment acquired the film for distribution in the U.S. Signature Entertainment will handle its release in the United Kingdom.

As a devoted fan, I’d like to highlight that the captivating series “Bookworm” was skillfully brought to life by the creative minds of Emma Slade, Roxi Bull, Victoria Dabbs, Mette-Marie Kongsved, and Laura Tunstall. The show is not just their work, but also a collaboration with Steven Demmler from Talon Entertainment Finance, Blair Ward, Anders Erdén, and Lauren Case Orogen Entertainment, as well as Kelly Rogers and Kevin Gordon from Rialto Distribution. They all played significant roles in its production.

The film titled “Bookworm” has been well-received on the global genre scene since its debut at Montreal’s Fantasia International Film Festival, where it clinched the audience prize for the best international feature. It has graced screens at various other prestigious events such as Spain’s Sitges Festival, Melbourne International Film Festival, Fantastic Fest, Frightfest, and numerous others.

The film is created by a team from Firefly Films New Zealand, including Emma Slade (from the movie “Come to Daddy”), Roxi Bull (“Uproar”) and Victoria Dabbs (“Malevolent”). Also part of this creative group are Laura Tunstall of Nowhere (responsible for “Nine Days”) and Mette-Marie Kongsved (“I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore”).
