Elle Fanning to Play Effie in ‘Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’ (Exclusive)

Elle Fanning is set to join the fray in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.

It’s been announced exclusively by The Hollywood Reporter that the actress who was nominated for an Emmy has been chosen to play Effie Trinket in the upcoming Lionsgate movie, set to release in theaters on November 20, 2026. This film is a movie adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ popular novel, directed by Francis Lawrence.

The Emmy-nominated actress has been selected for the role of Effie Trinket in the upcoming Lionsgate movie, as reported exclusively by The Hollywood Reporter. Francis Lawrence is directing this film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ bestselling novel, which will be shown in theaters on November 20, 2026.

In this scene, Effie is assigned as Haymitch Abernathy’s personal stylist prior to the 50th Hunger Games. Previously, Elizabeth Banks had portrayed a slightly older version of Effie in the initial four films of the series, starting with The Hunger Games, which premiered in cinemas in 2012.

In a prior announcement, Zada, Whitney Peak, Mckenna Grace, Jesse Plemons, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Maya Hawke, Lili Taylor, and Ben Wang were revealed as cast members. THR’s latest exclusive report adds that Ralph Fiennes will take on the role of the sinister President Snow, while Molly McCann and Iona Bell have been cast as beloved characters Louella and Lou Lou from the books.

Since Suzanne’s book was published, a single question has resonated among fans worldwide: Who will portray Effie? This was a challenge as Elizabeth Banks had made an indelible mark on the character. However, we felt there was only one actress who could pay tribute to her iconic portrayal while also delving into Effie’s early, formative years. For us, that choice was clear. Elle Fanning, with her illustrious career and unique blend of warmth, sparkle, and profound depth, stood out as the top pick from the get-go. We are fortunate she accepted our invitation, and it seems fate was on our side.

Lawrence directs the film based on a screenplay by Billy Ray, who adapted Collins’ novel. Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson serve as producers under Color Force, with Cameron MacConomy acting as an executive producer.

Meredith Wieck and Scott O’Brien are in charge of “Sunrise at the Harvest” at Lionsgate, with Robert Melnik managing the business transaction on behalf of the company.

The story of the book “Sunrise on the Reaping” unfolds in Panem early on the day of the 50th Hunger Games rehearsal, which occurred 24 years prior to the events depicted in “The Hunger Games”, a novel first published in 2008. This franchise’s opening five movies have amassed over $3.3 billion at global box offices, with the first four films featuring Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen.

In recent times, Fanning’s work has been recognized with credits like the Oscar-nominated film “A Complete Unknown” from last year and Joachim Trier’s “Sentimental Value,” which is debuting at Cannes this week. You’ll be able to catch her in upcoming productions such as the Apple TV+ series titled “Margo’s Financial Woes” and the 20th Century film “Predator: Badlands” set for release this fall.

The actress is represented by UTA, TFC Management and Hansen Jacobson.
