Elle King Will Go Years Without Talking to Father Rob Schneider, Says His “Anti-Gay Rights” Views Are “F***ed”

As a gamer with a heart for music and a knack for empathizing with others’ stories, I find myself deeply moved by Elle King’s journey. Growing up with such a complex relationship with her father Rob Schneider must have been like navigating through an intricate RPG with unpredictable quests and hidden traps.

Elle King openly discussed her strained, “harmful” relationship with her father, Rob Schneider, revealing that he made her attend a weight loss camp for two consecutive summers.

The musician recently visited Bunnie XO’s podcast called “Dumb Blonde” before embarking on her Baby Daddy’s Weekend Tour in September. In this discussion, she candidly discussed having Schneider as her father and also shared anecdotes about her intoxicated Dolly Parton tribute at the Grand Ole Opry back in January.

Growing up, her father wasn’t actively present in her life, and they didn’t develop a strong bond until much later because she sensed he struggled to understand her. Now, as an adult, King confided that her relationship with him is somewhat inconsistent, experiencing periods of closeness followed by distance.

At the moment, she informed the podcast host that things weren’t going smoothly for her due to disagreements about his views. She felt frustrated because he often expressed opinions that she didn’t align with, and admittedly, she wished he could change in certain ways. However, she acknowledged that ultimately, she can’t dictate someone else’s actions or emotions. All she can manage is how she responds to the situation and how she handles her feelings.

Although she acknowledges that she can’t regulate his thoughts, she expressed, “At times, I become so frustrated that I feel like I could explode.”

The singer known for his song “Baby Daddy’s Weekend” additionally mentioned that he often criticized her weight in the past, to such an extent that he enrolled her in weight loss camps during her 11th and 12th summers. At these camps, she recalled being served a slice of turkey and steamed vegetables for every meal and required to exercise throughout the day.

“The following year, I injured my ankle and couldn’t shed any pounds as a result,” she shared about her past. Regarding her relationship with Schneider, she described it as ‘extremely unhealthy and rather absurd.'”

Earlier in our discussion, Queen mentioned that she typically avoids contacting him for periods of 4 to 5 years. Back when she initially signed with a record label and launched her debut album, there were many who started questioning her about the contentious actor, which she found displeasing.

“Initially, when my album was released and people began inquiring about my father, he contacted me and essentially said, ‘Don’t discuss me in the media.’ I responded, ‘Well, alright then. Understood.’ However, it felt as though he was saying, ‘Get lost.’ frankly, I don’t care. For years, people have been asking about your life, and I’ve been responding by saying you’re talking nonsense, and you’ve been spreading negative views on LGBTQ+ rights. So, once again, get lost.”

She unequivocally expressed her disagreement with his views regarding the LGBTQ community, and instead, she advocates for “all expressions of affection.” In her opinion, everyone deserves to discover their contentment and bliss, regardless of how or in what form it manifests.

The monarch clarified that she had no desire for his assistance when embarking on her musical career, as he wasn’t well-regarded. Instead, she chose to carve out her path independently to avoid any connections to him. She also mentioned that he was not a pleasant individual.

During a conversation with Bunnie Xo, the topic of her contentious performance in tribute to Parton earlier in the year also arose. She shared that although it wasn’t perfect, she believes it provided her with a valuable “chance to learn and evolve.”

She remarked, “Each encounter offers a chance for transformation, and transformation is unavoidable. It’s like a tool honing its own edge with every use, though I’m not sure of the exact phrase.”

King mentioned that she had recently recovered from postpartum depression and during that time, various matters had piled up. She expressed this as, “I believe I hit an all-time low.”
