Ellen DeGeneres Says She and Wife Portia de Rossi Moved to the U.K. Because of President Trump

Ellen DeGeneres stated that she, along with her spouse Portia de Rossi, decided to relocate to the U.K. due to the presidency of Donald Trump.

During a live chat in Cheltenham, England on Sunday, the comedian and ex-talk show host revealed some news to British broadcaster Richard Bacon. He inquired if rumors about her moving to the UK due to Trump were accurate. She confirmed this, explaining that she made the decision to permanently reside there the day after Trump was re-elected for a second term in November, as reported by the BBC.

Following the conclusion of Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show in 2022, she launched her final tour, titled “Ellen’s Last Stand… Up,” which concluded in August. Subsequently, the couple acquired what they initially perceived as a secondary residence – a property to spend a few months at each year. However, this plan altered when Donald Trump was re-elected, according to DeGeneres.

She arrived a day prior to the election, only to wake up the next morning flooded with concerned text messages from friends, complete with weeping emojis. “He won,” she acknowledged. “We decided to stay put instead.

The home they own lies in a less urban, countryside region known as the Cotswolds. This past winter was the first time DeGeneres experienced snowfall throughout her lifetime. At the same time, De Rossi transported her horses to this location, whereas DeGeneres keeps chickens.

DeGeneres admired the locale, stating, ‘This place is stunningly beautiful! We’re not accustomed to such charm. The villages, towns, and architecture are all delightful, and it seems life here is more straightforward. It’s pristine. Everything from the treatment of animals to the manners of people is superior. I simply adore it here.'”

DeGeneres also noted she and De Rossi might get married again in England.

Simultaneously, DeGeneres responded to accusations that her previous talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, was a challenging work environment. She admitted she can be direct but dismissed many articles about her behavior on set as sensationalized. An internal probe by the company, Warner Bros., led to the dismissal of three top producers. DeGeneres also began her final season — its 19th — with an on-air apology.

She expressed her frustration by saying, ‘It’s unacceptable for us to have any emotion other than being pleasant, as if we should always be nice, kind, submissive, and agreeable.’ She continued, ‘I find it difficult to shake off this image, which is painful for me. I detest it. I hate that people perceive me as such because I am fully aware of my empathetic and compassionate nature.’
