As a gamer with a diverse taste in media, I’m always on the lookout for something fresh and captivating. The teaser trailer for Emilia Perez has me hooked! With Zoe Saldaña, Selena Gomez, and Karla Sofía Gascón leading this critically acclaimed Netflix queer crime musical, it promises a unique blend of genres that I can’t resist.
The brief preview of the movie titled Emilia Perez showcases Zoe Saldaña, Selena Gomez, and Karla Sofía Gascón in the highly praised Netflix queer crime musical that has received critical acclaim.
Under the direction and writing of Jacques Audiard, this Spanish-language film centers around protagonist Emilia (Gascón), a powerful cartel leader. In order to fully transition and express her authentic self, Emilia recruits Rita (Saldaña), a disregarded lawyer, to orchestrate a staged death scene for her.
“The film’s tagline describes an adventure that unfolds using powerful music, dance, and striking imagery, focusing on the unique journeys of four extraordinary women in Mexico as they chase their individual happiness.”
The movie features Jessi Gomez, Adriana Paz as Epifanía, and Edgar Ramírez portraying Gustavo. Pauline Lamy, along with Pascal Caucheteux, Jacques Audiard, Valérie Schermann, and Anthony Vaccarello, served as executive and producing partners on the project.
This year, the film titled “Emilia Perez” made its debut at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. It was a successful premiere as it took home two awards, including the jury prize and best actress accolades for Paz, Saldaña, Gomez and Gascón. Notably, Gascón became the first transgender actress to win an award at Cannes.
As a gamer, I’m all about recognizing and appreciating the unique strengths each player brings to the table. And that’s exactly what we did when designing this award – we wanted to celebrate the collective power of women in gaming. Each one of them is exceptional on their own, but when they come together, they become something truly transcendent.
In a critique for The Hollywood Reporter, their main movie reviewer David Rooney, expressed that with the film Emilia Pérez, director Audiard has created something original, vibrant, and moving, propelled by an understated yet powerful lift.
Emilia Perez hits select theaters on Nov. 1 and starts streaming on Netflix on Nov. 13.
