Emilio Estevez is speaking candidly about an unsuccessful effort to revive the ’90s Mighty Ducks series. The movies, beginning with 1992’s The Mighty Ducks, followed by sequels such as D2: The Mighty Ducks (1994) and D3: The Mighty Ducks (1996), collectively grossed $119.3 million at the box office and played a significant role in launching the careers of actors like and Joshua Jackson.
During an interview on Josh Horowitz’s podcast, Estevez mentioned his plans for a fourth “Mighty Ducks” movie script. He said, “I felt it was important to rectify the mistakes made during the ‘Game Changers’ series.” This statement indicates that he wanted to correct the issues that occurred in the previous series.
The actor once again took on his “Mighty Ducks” character, Coach Gordon Bombay, in the show “Game Changers”, but he departed the series in 2022 due to disagreements over their contract. Despite this, he felt that the story was not yet complete, so he penned a draft script that continued from where “Game Changers” ended. Unfortunately, “Game Changers” has been taken down from Disney+.
Estevez’s Script Featured a Twist
Estevez described his script as a story about coach Bombay returning, drawn back by Josh Jackson’s character and Kenan Thompson’s character, to coach a fresh team in the professional women’s hockey league. In other words, it’s a female team he’d be coaching.”
“Later, we find that Bombay is currently coaching Roller Derby, and he declares, ‘My girls are coming with me. They deserve a chance,'” Estevez added.
He found the script for the fourth Mighty Ducks movie delightful and modern, but Disney didn’t share the same sentiment; they chose not to proceed with it. The original Mighty Ducks film focused on Coach Bombay as he took on the task of coaching a youth hockey team, a responsibility that came about due to a court order.

Joshua Jackson Recalls a Piece of Advice from Estevez
Joshua Jackson, known for his role as Charlie Conway in the Mighty Ducks series, has since built a diverse career with leading roles in shows like The Affair, a TV version of Fatal Attraction, and more recently, other projects. When he was only 15 years old, he started playing Charlie in The Mighty Ducks. During an interview, Jackson shared some words of wisdom given to him by Estevez during the filming of these movies.
Jackson shared that he picked up the ropes of working on film sets from (him), as per his statement. Moreover, Estevez cautioned him against potential pitfalls that could have negatively impacted his acting career. According to Jackson, his conduct on set gradually mirrored his character’s brash persona, Charlie, and he even disregarded a cluster of fans who requested his autograph.
Emilio gently guided me aside and simply stated, “Never do that again.” I asked, “What are you referring to?” He responded, “Never, ever do that again. Why do you believe you have the privilege to skate in front of all those people? It’s them who keep you employed. Always remember who it is you are here for,” Jackson recounted Estevez saying.
