‘Emily in Paris’ Renewed for Season 5 at Netflix

As a seasoned gamer who’s spent countless hours navigating through virtual worlds, I can’t help but draw parallels between my digital adventures and the real-life story of Emily in Paris. Just like Emily, I too have found myself in unexpected locales, immersed in unfamiliar cultures, and striving to adapt while maintaining my unique identity. The news of Emily’s return for a fifth season is music to my ears!

Oui! Emily in Paris has been renewed at Netflix.

The popular Darren Star series featuring Lily Collins is coming back for a fifth season, as revealed by the streaming service. On Monday, there was a surprising announcement made by both Collins and Star that Rome will remain a key setting in the show, similar to its role in “Emily in Paris.

The overwhelmingly positive reception to this season of ‘Emily in Paris’ has left us ecstatic! We can’t wait to bring you more of Emily’s escapades as we move forward with a fifth season, set in both Rome and Paris,” Darren Star shared with Netflix’s Tudum.

Collins, who announced it on ‘Good Morning America’, shared a post on Instagram with the caption, “There’s nowhere quite like Rome.

The renewal comes shortly after the Part 2 debut of season four on Sept. 12.

The television series had concluded with the show’s Grateau Agency opening a branch in Rome. Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) proposes that Emily (Collins) take charge of this new office, which would keep her in Italy close to her romantic interest, Marcello Muratori (Eugenio Franceschini), providing her with a reason to stay.

In conversation with The Hollywood Reporter following the season four finale and before learning about its renewal, Star hinted that there would be additional appearances of Rome in Emily’s storyline.

As a fan, I’m excited to share that Agence Grateau has expanded and opened an office in the enchanting city of Rome! While this means Emily will divide her time between the Eternal City and our beloved Paris, rest assured she hasn’t left us completely. In fact, she’ll be splitting her days between two incredible cities. However, despite the geographical change, her Instagram handle remains as it is – a testament to her enduring connection with our very own city of lights.

In conversation with Tudum about the upcoming news, Star revealed that the plan to establish an Emily in Paris office in Rome stemmed from his ambition to “keep audiences engaged by taking them to unanticipated destinations,” and demonstrate “the show’s potential to leave a larger impact.

Following the completion of the initial part of the season amidst a frosty winter in Paris, the cast and team behind Emily in Paris moved on to Italy for filming the second half, titled Emily’s Roman Holiday. According to Collins, speaking with THR prior to the release of season four, being in Rome was an extraordinary experience, serving as a perfect way to cap off this season for the crew because it felt like a vacation. The culture there is incredibly inviting and steeped in history, the streets brimming with tales of the past, and the cuisine is simply delightful.

The fourth season of “Emily in Paris” debuted to less viewership due to its split release format. Normally, all ten episodes are released simultaneously. However, this time around, the August 15 premiere attracted only about half of the previous full-season premiere’s audience, accumulating approximately 792 million minutes of viewing in the U.S. during its first week, as reported by Nielsen’s streaming ratings.

Initially, the show took the top spot on Netflix’s Global Top 10 chart and made it into the Top 10 lists of 93 countries worldwide. Notably, it has continued to appear on these charts for four straight weeks as stated by the streaming service.
