Emma Frost In Marvel Rivals Is Not Gooner Bait

Ever since Emma Frost made her debut, I’ve always found myself rooting for this iconic Marvel character. Now, the excitement is building as I eagerly anticipate getting my hands on her in the upcoming game, Marvel Rivals. It feels like a dream come true!

Since her unveiling, some people have expressed criticism regarding the character’s perceived over-sexualization, drawing parallels with her Fortnite counterpart. However, what seems to elude these critics is that Emma’s sexualized appearance is actually a significant aspect of her character.

Emma Frost Oversexualized?

Since the introduction of Frost in the game, there’s been plenty of chatter surrounding her design and discussions about her movement dynamics and muscular legs. Here’s an example of a post:

“People just can’t seem to stop talking about Frost’s appearance, especially her athletic build and the way she moves!

One aspect of the Emma Frost character in comic books that may not be immediately apparent to some fans is the significance of her allure, which plays a crucial role in her personality and contributes to her enduring popularity among readers. This appeal has resonated not only with heterosexual fans but also with those who identify as LGBTQ+.

As a devoted fan, I must say that Emma’s eclectic wardrobe has truly become emblematic of her character, and some argue it serves to highlight her radiant form adorned with comic book diamonds. Even the normally steel-clad Colossus seems to exude an additional charm when he’s not encased in his usual metallic armor.

While some individuals argue that Emma Frost’s portrayal of sexuality in the comics is justified, it’s not unreasonable for others to criticize her excessive sexualization. For quite a while, Emma, as well as many other female characters in comics, were created to cater to a male perspective and were excessively sexualized during the 2000s.

In contemporary comic books, Emma is depicted as having a significantly more feminist approach in her clothing choices and portrayal of sexuality. Her diverse wardrobe, previously often associated with sexualization, is now reimagined to underscore empowerment instead.

It’s interesting to note that the discussion about Emma is similar in some ways to the response from certain gamers towards Bayonetta – a character also known for her sexualized portrayal in video games. However, Bayonetta is admired for her empowering representation, rather than being primarily designed to cater to the male perspective.

“Kneel, Peasants!”

In simpler terms, Emma’s appearances in the Marvel Rivals series have been rather modest compared to the past, with frequent exposure of her thighs. For a significant period, she wore only a white corset and underwear, but later on, they began dressing her more conservatively, though it seemed like there was still a rule that 80% of her chest remained exposed.

It seems that those criticizing Emma online may simply be trying to provoke conflict, as anyone familiar with Emma Frost understands that her stylish but mischievous demeanor is an integral part of her persona – a trait that many fans admire.

Some fans of Emma, while supporting her ‘Dommy Mommy’ persona, are not fully satisfied with her appearance in the game. They argue that she should wear thigh-high boots, but it seems likely that the developers intentionally held back on giving Emma the best outfits within the game to generate revenue by selling them in the store instead.

Emma Frost will join the fray when Marvel Rivals’ second season kicks off on April 11th. Currently, you can play Marvel Rivals on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PS5 platforms.
