Emmys: Jacob Elordi’s Aussie Limited Series ‘The Narrow Road Into the Deep North’ Is Late Entry Into Primetime, Not International Race (Exclusive)

At the last minute, the Emmys race is getting a big new contender.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, it has been revealed that “The Narrow Road Into the Deep North,” a highly praised Australian limited series helmed by director Justin Kurzel (known for “Nitram” and “The Order”), and featuring Jacob Elordi (star of “Euphoria” and “Saltburn”), was recently submitted for consideration in the Primetime Emmy Awards instead of the International Emmys, just before the TV Academy’s May 8 entry deadline.

The series, acquired by Amazon’s Prime Video from Sony Pictures Television, premiered on their streaming platform on April 18th. This production is set to be nominated in several categories: best limited or anthology series, actor in a limited or anthology series or TV movie (Elordi), directing for a limited or anthology series or TV movie (Kurzel), and writing for a limited or anthology series or TV movie (Shaun Grant, who wrote all five episodes).

The novel, titled “The Narrow Road Into the Deep North“, by Richard Flanagan, is a compelling narrative that primarily revolves around an Australian doctor, who serves as an army surgeon during World War II. Captured and imprisoned, his life is marked by memories of a past relationship with his uncle’s wife (portrayed by Odessa Young in the films “Mothering Sunday” and the upcoming “Deliver Me from Nowhere“, as well as by Bruce Springsteen’s film). Later, decades after the war, Ciarán Hinds (nominated for an Oscar in “Belfast“) takes on the role previously played by Elordi.

In most Emmy categories for limited or anthology series, a foreign production on Netflix titled “Adolescence” is currently leading. However, it’s not quite as critically acclaimed as “The Narrow Road Into the Deep North,” which has a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes compared to Adolescence’s 99%. At the moment, there’s no one hotter than actor Charlie Carrick Elordi, who will soon be seen as the lead in Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein,” set for release in November.

Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Prime Video are planning to promote their upcoming show vigorously. They have scheduled an official For Your Consideration (FYC) event on June 4, which is eight days prior to the June 12 – 23 nomination voting window. This event will include a screening and panel discussion featuring actors Elordi and Kurzel.
