As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for all things unique and edgy, I can’t help but be intrigued by the latest offering from Californian brand ERL – the Vamps sneakers. With my roots deeply entrenched in the skate culture of the ’90s, these shoes resonate with me on a personal level. The exaggerated upper that pays homage to the skate motifs is a nod to my past and I can’t help but appreciate the attention to detail.
Following the unveiling of its initial shoe this year, the California-based ERL label is expanding its lineup by introducing three fresh color options for its Vamp model, perfect for the upcoming holiday season.
The ERL Vamp sneakers are famous for their bulky, skate-oriented design that created quite a stir in the footwear industry. The upper part has been dramatically enlarged and takes on a shape that’s almost comical or cartoonish. Keeping true to the designer’s roots in Venice, California, the shoe incorporates skate-inspired themes. For Holiday 2024, these shoes will be available in colors like sand, electric grey, and pirate black. Like earlier versions, they are crafted from top-quality suede uppers and rest on a gum sole. Inside each shoe is a lining made of terrycloth, which reminds one of a worn-out beach towel.
The packaging of the shoes is equally impressive. Made with materials similar to those used by the US Postal Service in their corrugated boxes, these transparent packages reveal the newsprint wrapping from ERL inside, showcasing archival prints from the 1970s Venice Beach underground art scene. The Vamps will be available online starting December 18 at 9 a.m. PST for $455 USD.
