There are typically two primary attractions that draw people to the movies when it comes to watching Tom Cruise. The first is obviously his on-screen presence, and the second reason is undeniably the jaw-dropping stunts he performs in each film.
In “The Final Reckoning,” there’s a perilous water-based trick involving entering a submarine. During an interview, the actor shared his account of the event, stating, “Often, I can’t see properly due to the glare from the lights.” He then went on to explain, “I’d go in feeling somewhat blind, spending considerable time on set learning the movements as we worked out the camera angles. When it came to performing, I found it challenging.
Not only does the suit become heavier by approximately 125 pounds when wet, but the training required to handle such situations takes years of dedicated effort,” Cruise explained. It’s clear that underwater stunts can be terrifying for many, given the constant risk of drowning.
During Cruise’s promotional events for the film, the underwater stunt performed by him has been a recurring topic. Earlier, he mentioned that he could not stay in the diving gear for more than ten minutes at once.
He explained to Fallon, “It was incredibly powerful; let me tell you. I didn’t expect such a strong push from the air, almost like a struggle to breathe… In essence, experiencing the force of those air particles coming off that propeller felt like the ultimate weight training workout.
Have you ever felt like you couldn’t lift a weight once you put it down, knowing that lifting it again would be just as difficult? That’s similar to what flying this wing feels like after a few minutes, given the maneuvers we were doing because they involve quick changes in speed from 95 to 145 miles per hour. Plus, there are moments when you pull Gs while moving along, since many of the things I need to navigate – such as floating between the wings and adjusting my position up and down – require zero gravity. It was quite wild!
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning will be released in movie theaters on May 23.
