WARNING! SPOILERS ahead for FBI: Most Wanted season 6, episode 22, “The Circle Game.”
In a fitting conclusion to the spin-off series derived from FBI, the 22nd episode of season 6, titled “The Circle Game,” brings an intense final case to a close. Despite its relatively high ratings, CBS decided to discontinue the show, FBI: Most Wanted, in 2025. Known for its graphic violence, the series centered around the Fugitive Task Force, who pursued dangerous, heavily armed criminals, many of whom were responsible for multiple murders.
As a devoted viewer, I have to say that “The Circle Game” kept me on the edge of my seat right up until the very end. Instead of wrapping everything up neatly earlier, it presented one last case before revealing each character’s destiny. Intriguingly, this structure could have easily served as a season finale, given that only one character received a proper farewell in the final episode. Nevertheless, those last minutes offered a heartfelt and satisfying conclusion, which was the best we could hope for, considering there won’t be an FBI: Most Wanted season 7 anymore.
FBI: Most Wanted Series Finale Case Explained
The Team Chases Rogue Government Agents Who Are Killing People
In the concluding episode of FBI: Most Wanted, the plotline is thrilling, though it might be a bit confusing at times. The narrative commences with the gruesome murder of a federal employee who was participating in a tranquil demonstration protesting budget cuts to government agencies that led to widespread layoffs. Throughout the initial portion of the episode, the Fugitive Task Force pursues the suspects, Judy and Saquon. When Saquon kidnaps his aunt due to learning that the FBI is after him, this aspect of the tale swiftly resolves itself when Barnes (Roxy Sternberg) fatally shoots him, and Judy surrenders herself to the authorities.
It becomes clear that Saquon had been collaborating with two unscrupulous auditors from federal agencies, who were exploiting their access to obtain security codes and sensitive data needed for cyber-attacks on power grids and various digital systems. After the culprits assassinate two security personnel, the Fugitive Task Force initiates a high-stakes chase. Eventually, they manage to corner the two miscreants. In a dramatic turn of events, one of the suspects was fatally shot during a confrontation and the other eventually gave up after a tense standoff in a church, where he had taken an elderly church leader hostage, threatening to harm him if his demands were not met.
Remy Retires From The FBI
In The Final Minutes, He Reveals His Decision
Once the case concludes, everyone from the team moves on to Remy and Abby’s recently opened restaurant to celebrate both its debut and Remy’s birthday. Remy is moved when his team presents him with a cake following an exquisite dinner they enjoyed. Yet, he feels it’s appropriate to share some news, and reveals to his colleagues that he has chosen to retire from the FBI after a challenging year.
The sequence of events, while not entirely unexpected, still caught the team off guard. The conclusion of this story arc, which has been ongoing throughout the season, revolves around Abby’s dissatisfaction with Remy working long hours and living far from her. However, things are about to change as they will now have the opportunity to live and work together.
Barnes Takes Over The Fugitive Team After Remy’s Retirement
Remy Announces She Will Be The New Leader
Remy confidently tells the team that Barnes will become their new leader after he steps down, marking a positive conclusion for Barnes. However, this ending has an unexpected twist due to its setup in the last few episodes of the series. Despite constant discussions about a job in Washington D.C., which would bring her closer to her children and ex-wife, it appears that Barnes may choose to take this opportunity instead of assuming leadership of the Fugitive Task Force, leaving her future uncertain for now.
In the beginning of the episode, “The Circle Game” introduces another distraction or misdirection. At the end of the last episode, we see Barnes and Remy in Remy’s office, with Remy appearing troubled by Barnes deciding to leave the team for a job in D.C. The conversation between the two continues in this episode, making it seem as though they are discussing Barnes’ transfer rather than an internal promotion, due to their prolonged discussion. Furthermore, Ray expresses his confusion about the situation, but deduces that it must be significant because Barnes and Remy have been talking for so long.
What Happens To The Rest Of FBI: Most Wanted’s Team
They All Stay With The Fugitive Task Force But Have Major Life Changes
Following his declaration, Remy expresses his appreciation for his team members personally, acknowledging their significance in his life. Furthermore, the outcome of each character is disclosed, be it at the table or in scenes preceding this episode. Interestingly, out of the entire FBI: Most Wanted season 6 ensemble, only Remy departs from the Fugitive Task Force, but every character receives a fitting conclusion. Before Remy’s announcement, Hana (Keisha Castle-Hughes) has personal news to share – now that Ethan has finished rehab, they plan to cohabit.
Each Fugitive Task Force Team Member’s Fate After FBI: Most Wanted Ends | ||
---|---|---|
Character | Actor | Fate |
Remy Scott | Dylan McDermott | Retires from the FBI and opens a restaurant with Abby |
Nina Chase | Shantel Van Santen | Forgives her father for his earlier judgmentalism |
Ray Cannon | Edwin Hughes | Having a baby with Cora |
Hana Gibson | Keisha Castle-Hughes | Moves in with Ethan (and his dog) after Ethan completes rehab |
Sheryll Barnes | Roxy Sternberg | Becomes the new Fugitive Task Force team leader |
In a playful manner, she admits that “she’s more thrilled at the prospect of meeting his pet” rather than the man himself. Meanwhile, Ray has some thrilling news; he revealed a sonogram to Nina earlier in the episode and later announced to the entire team that he will be a father again. Nina’s conclusion is the least exhilarating — she’ll remain with the team, but early on, she had a heartfelt conversation with her father where he apologized for his previous judgmental stance regarding her and Scola’s choice not to marry.
Will Any FBI: Most Wanted Characters Appear on FBI Now That Most Wanted Has Ended?
The Door Is Open For Them To Do So
It’s plausible that some characters from the now-concluded spinoff might appear on FBI, although no formal announcements have been made. Since all but Remy are still part of the Fugitive Task Force and maintain a positive relationship with the FBI, Isobel could potentially move one or two characters to the New York Field Office if they seem suitable for the original FBI series.
It’s feasible for characters from the FBI: Most Wanted series to make guest appearances in FBI. Despite FBI: Most Wanted concluding, the Fugitive Task Force still operates. Characters like Hana, Sheryll, and Ray might pay visits to FBI when their specialized skills could aid a specific case. Since Nina is married to Scola, a main character on that series, there’s no reason why she couldn’t continue making occasional appearances now that FBI: Most Wanted has ended its broadcast.
