ESPN Hires Former NFL MVP Cam Newton as a ‘First Take’ Regular (Exclusive)

As a seasoned gamer, who has spent countless hours navigating the virtual battlefields of sports media, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation at the news of Cam Newton joining ESPN’s First Take. With years of experience under his belt, from MVP performances on the gridiron to a stint as a contestant on Dancing with the Stars, Newton brings an electrifying presence that is sure to ignite the debates on this signature morning show.

ESPN is adding a former NFL MVP to its signature weekday series First Take.

The major sports broadcasting corporation has secured the services of Cam Newton, who previously played as the quarterback for both the Carolina Panthers and the New England Patriots. His new role will mainly involve providing analysis on the show First Take, acting as a commentator for the company.

I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be making my first appearance on “First Take” this coming Friday, October 11, during a live recording at Tennessee State University. This is all part of the show’s HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) roadshow! Can’t wait to join in the conversation!

During the time period of 10 am to noon, Stephen A. Smith and Molly Qerim’s morning talk show on ESPN has become a regular feature. Additionally, Shannon Sharpe and Chris “Mad Dog” Russo are also part of the commentary team for the show titled “First Take.

David Roberts, ESPN’s executive vice president and editorial director of sports news and entertainment, stated that Cam Newton significantly boosts our already stellar lineup of prominent personalities on First Take. He brings an invigorating aura, and paired with the intense debates alongside Stephen A. Smith, will make for unmissable TV for fans, promising engaging and captivating content.

In every task I undertake, I’ve consistently shown enthusiasm and vigor, and that will remain unchanged at ESPN,” Newton stated. “I’m eager for the chance to express my viewpoints and engage in intellectual debates with top professionals. Fans can anticipate the same fervor I displayed on the field, combined with honest opinions, daring insights, and enjoyable banter.

ESPN is planning to bring in Newton as part of their strategy to reshape their on-screen team and programming, in anticipation of a broader move towards streaming next year. They’ve let go of several on-air talents recently, while also recruiting new ones like Jason Kelce, the ex-Eagles star, and Nick Saban, the former Alabama coach.

Smith, the leading figure on the show “First Take“, is also planning to be a part of ESPN’s future (Smith is currently in talks with ESPN regarding his contract), as several regular commentators who will include Newton are set to engage in debates about the day’s sports news. The host recently shared with “The Hollywood Reporter” that he is actively adapting to the evolving media world himself.

‘How can we stay significant and continue to outshine our competitors?’ According to Smith, this is the challenge ESPN faces, and he sees himself as crucial in maintaining ESPN’s relevance within the Walt Disney company.
