Ethel Cain Returns With Sophomore Album ‘Perverts’

26-year-old Ethel Cain, the rising star in the alternative-rock genre who gained popularity with her 2022 album “Preacher’s Daughter“, is back with her second studio album entitled “Perverts“.

Hayden Anhedönia, known by her stage name Cain, spent the past year creating, producing, and recording a 90-minute project from Coraopolis, Pennsylvania, to Tallahassee, Florida. This nine-track collection finds Cain delving into dismal sonic territories, encompassing elements such as mining drone, slowcore, and ambient music, while also tapping into her most profound inspirations to date.

In a public declaration, Cain advises, “Create a small wound on yourself to observe what emerges. Don’t reveal this secret to anyone but store some in a miniature jar beneath your bed. Darken all your windows and walls with fabric, then carve multiple circular patterns in the center of the room. Make the environment hot and restrictive, suffocate yourself. Venture into the woods and consider the numerous lines you see. The world is built on these lines and their intersections.

She explains, “There’s still opportunity to enter a place where there’s nothing, and remain there forever, but keep in mind that as long as you maintain your autonomy, the world has the freedom to respond in kind. Your actions don’t shield you from repercussions. You can act as you wish, provided you can endure the fallout. If you can’t, then it might be wise to seclude yourself so others won’t witness your tears. It’s alright to be vulnerable. After all, you were created with this fragility for a purpose.
