‘Etoile’ Canceled at Amazon After One Season — Despite Two-Season Order

Despite initial plans for two seasons, Amazon’s Prime Video decided not to renew the series ‘Étoile‘, only airing one season instead.

Approximately six weeks after the entire eight-episode season of Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, created by Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, debuted, news arrives about a new series titled Étoile. This show takes place in the realm of ballet and follows the leaders of financially strapped ballet companies in New York City and Paris (portrayed by Luke Kirby, formerly from Maisel, and Charlotte Gainsbourg). In an unusual move, they decide to interchange their lead dancers.

In 2023, Amazon Prime Video commissioned a two-season, direct-to-series production for a new show while “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” was in its final season. However, as is common with such arrangements, the streaming service or network has the option to withdraw after part of a multi-season order. This is exactly what happened with the series titled “Étoile.
