As a seasoned gamer of both TV shows and real-life mysteries, I can confidently say that the latest episode of FBI: Most Wanted has left me both intrigued and slightly frustrated. After all, isn’t it always the case when a good storyline keeps you guessing?
Spoilers ahead for Episode 6 of FBI: Most Wanted Season 6, called “Pageantry” and available streaming now with a Paramount+ subscription.
Following a short hiatus, the series “FBI: Most Wanted” resumed on CBS, filling the remaining slots of the 2024 TV schedule before the commencement of the 2025 TV schedule. The latest episode was a thrilling mix of a beauty pageant, assassins, the CIA, and sarin gas – a combination that brought back memories of one of “FBI“‘s most gripping storylines. This episode was also the highly anticipated one that showrunner David Hudgins had hinted about earlier in the fall, but his teases about Ethan‘s “secret” didn’t prepare me for what Hana would uncover about her boyfriend in “Pageantry.
Before diving headfirst into potential spoilers, let’s begin by discussing the surprising revelation from the showrunner that left me completely caught off guard in the most recent episode.
What David Hudgins Told Me About Hana And Ethan
I had a chat with David Hudgins, the showrunner of FBI: Most Wanted, prior to Season 6 this fall. We discussed various topics, from the nostalgic Crosby reference to the benefits of having a full season. He also shared some insights about the main characters’ relationships, revealing that “Hana will be with Ethan” at the start of the new season.
I confessed to Hudgins that at first, I thought Ethan seemed too perfect for Hana, and he replied:
Ethan has returned, and while his motives aren’t malicious, he harbors a hidden truth that Hana uncovers. Together, they must navigate through the potential turmoil this secret may cause in their relationship. There’s no denying Michael Raymond-James exudes an air of mischief; you can almost sense something mysterious about him. Yet, I adore their on-screen chemistry so much! I find myself eagerly awaiting ‘dailies’ when Michael is present, as the moments after they finish filming, where he and Keisha interact, are nothing short of amusing and captivating. In essence, Ethan doesn’t mean harm, but his secret does stir up some tension.
Despite Hudgins hinting at a secret that could strain their bond significantly, his remarks about Michael Raymond-James and Keisha Castle-Hughes being “a hilarious duo” gave me the impression that they’d weather any storm together. Intriguingly, the showrunner elaborated on his preference for weaving tales not only from the characters’ tumultuous weekly cases but also their personal lives.
I believe the series benefits from my perspective, as I find it rewarding to collaborate on scriptwriting and delve into the narratives. Over time, what I love about this show is its ability to offer a glimpse into the personal lives of our characters. It’s captivating to watch. While we have our main plot revolving around catching the fugitive, remember that these are authentic individuals grappling with genuine issues, triumphs, and struggles. We aim to bring those stories to life too.
After my initial conversation with Hudgins, it’s become clear that Ethan can bring up legitimate issues for Hana without harboring harmful intentions. His hidden truth could potentially strain their relationship and even place her in a complicated position as an FBI agent, but he’s not intentionally causing her harm. It’s just… quite complex. Now, let’s delve into how Hana discovers Ethan’s secret!
What Happened In “Pageantry”
The episode began by showing Ethan and Hana spending a cozy evening indoors, watching TV together. Ethan confessed that he had been absent recently but had an exciting plan for them in the coming days – a visit to see the Rockettes’ Christmas Spectacular at Radio City followed by a romantic dinner. Hana seemed delighted… which could have foreshadowed a significant turn of events, considering we’re discussing FBI: Most Wanted. As he stepped outside with Milo, his phone buzzed with a message from “Jamie” that Hana had received, saying:
Missed you tonight. I’ll be up late if you need me xxoo
Despite Hana having a generous interpretation of who “Jamie” might be, the “xxoo” at the end of the message seems quite incriminating. She wasn’t entirely deceived, in fact, she was looking forward to their night at Radio City… until he called it off. He apologized sincerely and promised to make amends for cancelling.
By the episode’s close, another piece of information came to light. Hana pounded on his apartment door when she couldn’t reach him for a few hours, eventually managing to enter and find him unconscious in front of the TV. It wasn’t a casual doze following a long journey or lack of sleep; it was clear he had taken something. Upon finding an Oxycodone bottle on his counter, she realized he was heavily under the influence. She slammed her key down, giving him a minute to offer some explanation regarding Jamie and his condition.
When he could barely say more than mumble “It’s not” regarding Jamie, Hana decided she had had enough, realizing her suspicions about him were correct, and left the apartment in a rage. All she wanted was to spend a joyful evening watching the Rockettes, but this is what she ended up with!
According to the showrunner’s remarks, it seems possible that Jamie isn’t another romantic interest for Hana as she suspects. Instead, could he be his drug supplier whom she wanted to meet so she could sell him more oxycodone? Or perhaps a non-addict recovery sponsor who wasn’t aware of Jamie relapsing? Could there be a plausible explanation behind the “xxoo” text message?
Perhaps it would be better for Hana and Barnes to arrange a time to see the Rockettes performance together, keeping any personal issues at bay for now? With their busy schedules, it might do them both some good to have a fun outing, reminiscent of Roxy Sternberg’s insights about Barnes’ connection with Hana as she analyzed her episode on TopMob.
It’s uncertain if we’ll receive any additional insights about Hana and Ethan’s potential future by the time winter break begins, as only one episode is left before the fall season finale. However, fans won’t have a long wait into the new year to witness the Fugitive Task Force resume their operations again.
In addition to the FBI (which has made a tough decision for Maggie) and FBI: International (set to welcome Station 19 alum Jay Hayden), the series Most Wanted will resume in 2025 on Tuesday, January 28. For now, catch up on new episodes every Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
