Every Difficulty In Avowed, Explained

Similar to many single-player games, Avowed offers a wide array of customization options at the start of your gameplay experience. These settings are designed to ensure everything is prepared beforehand, allowing you to dive deep into the game world once you embark on your adventure. Among these options are numerous accessibility features.

Among the key aspects you’ll encounter during gameplay is the level of challenge. While the game doesn’t offer a comprehensive customization for difficulty settings, you’ll be able to pick the most suitable option from the choices provided.

Every Difficulty In Avowed, Explained

Upon pressing the ‘New Game’ button in Avowed, you’ll encounter a large screen filled with various tabs, many of which offer options to tailor different character attributes. Regrettably, the game’s difficulty settings do not seem to provide as extensive customization options as those for your character.

After finishing designing your character, choosing a backstory, and allocating your ability scores, you’ll reach the last section where you can opt for one of the given five challenge levels:

Story Time This is the easiest difficulty in the game, and with it, you won’t even have to worry about the combat. Even if you don’t have the right level of gear for the fight, you’ll be dealing a good chunk of damage.

To put it in perspective, you can easily deal nearly half of the boss’ HP as damage if you have relatively strong gear for the fight. The damage you take will also be very less.

Easy Moving on to the second difficulty, things will still stay relatively easy here, especially if you’ve played any action game before. The enemies still take a big chunk of damage while dealing little damage to you.

As long as you’re keeping your gear on the same tier as the enemies, your battles will go without a hitch, even if you’re fighting a boss.

Normal The third difficulty is where things start getting a little tough. This difficulty not only decreases the overall damage you deal to the HP bars substantially, but also boosts the damage taken quite significantly.

If you don’t have your armor on the same tier as the enemies, there will be some attacks that will reduce half of your HP bar by themselves. You’ll have to pay attention to gear upgrades for this one.

Hard While you might not notice the difference between hard and normal difficulty at the start, it will become a lot more evident as you progress through the game. Hard difficulty expects you to know what you’re doing.

This essentially means that you’ll have to pay a lot of attention to your builds. If you’re planning to switch your main weapons, you’ll also have to reset your attributes and abilities accordingly.

Path of the Damned Finally, the Path of the Damned difficulty is where you’ll have a hard time even if you have the best possible build for your level. You’ll have to pay special attention to all combat mechanics if you want to succeed here.

If you take any damage from enemies, especially bosses, even if you have the recommended gear for the fight, you’ll still take a significant amount of damage.

In line with common sense, the standard level tends to offer a well-balanced gaming experience as it neither makes the game overly challenging nor too simple.

Occasionally, you may face defeat in battles due to its challenging nature, yet it continually motivates you to strive for improvements in your strategy or equipment.

Can You Change Difficulty Mid-Game?

It’s great news that you can adjust the level of challenge in your game whenever you want, making it less demanding. To do so, navigate to the main menu, select ‘Settings’, followed by ‘Game Settings’. There you will find the ‘Difficulty’ option conveniently located at the top.

This feature enables you to commence your game at a challenging level to help you gauge the waters. If you encounter an especially tough combat sequence that you’d like to overcome swiftly, you have the option to reduce the difficulty level and conquer it with ease.
