Uglies
Stream on September 13
According to the novel “Uglies” by Scott Westerfeld, the movie presents a science fiction story set in a post-apocalyptic world where society deems everyone as ugly until they turn sixteen and get an operation to become beautiful, or “Pretty.” Tally Youngblood (portrayed by Joey King) starts to question this norm when her friend Peris (Chase Stokes) undergoes the procedure. It becomes evident that the allure of becoming “Pretty” is not as enticing as it once was, and those in power are hiding the true intentions behind the transformation process.
venturing beyond societal norms, I stumbled upon a defiant hideout called the Smoke – a sanctuary for rebels who’ve escaped the clutches of the teenage control system. Though this freedom might be a relief from government rule, it’s evident that those bent on making me and others “Pretty” are far from done pursuing us. On September 13th, you can catch my journey in Uglies on Netflix.
