As a longtime fan of animated series, I couldn’t be more thrilled that Pokémon Horizons: The Series Part 3 is finally dropping on August 9! Growing up with Ash and Pikachu’s adventures was an essential part of my childhood, but Liko and Roy’s journey in this latest iteration has truly captured my heart. With Sprigatito and Fuecoco by their sides, they embark on a new adventure filled with wonder and excitement.
Netflix stands out among streaming services with an impressive output of TV shows. Having been in the business for a considerable period, they seem to have cracked the code for keeping viewers engaged and coming back for more, regardless of whether each series is a hit or miss for individuals. There’s always a gem worth discovering on their platform.
It’s great news that Netflix is offering a diverse range of shows this August. From returning series in drama and comedy, to new mysteries, there’s plenty to look forward to. No matter what type of content catches your attention, Netflix has got you covered with something enjoyable for everyone.
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder (Season 1)
Stream on August 1
In her 2019 novel “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” by Holly Jackson, the young adult crime mystery series centers around Pippa Fitz-Amobi (Emma Myers), who is determined to unravel the five-year-old murder case of Andie Bell (India Lillie Davies). Suspecting Sal Singh (Rahul Pattni) was wrongfully convicted for Andie’s death, Pippa embarks on a journey to find the real killer. However, her theory puts herself and those close to her in potential danger. Despite this risk, Pippa remains resolute, driven by her commitment to bringing justice to Andie and Sal. “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” will be available for streaming starting Aug. 1.
Unstable (Season 2)
Stream on August 1
I absolutely adore the quirky and humorous workplace comedy “Unstable.” In this series, Rob Lowe and his real-life son John Owen Lowe brilliantly bring to life the characters of Ellis and Jackson Dragon. Ellis, played by Rob, is a brilliant but unstable man who runs a biological research company. His eccentricities are pushing him close to losing control of his beloved business.
To prevent his father from facing imminent danger, introverted and socially awkward Jackson joins forces with him. Despite their vastly distinct viewpoints on life and business, they work closely together, bringing humor to their contrasting approaches. As the show’s second season premieres on Aug. 1, the father-son team encounters fresh obstacles at work and meets new colleagues.
The Umbrella Academy (Season 4)
Stream on August 8
As a huge fan of “The Umbrella Academy,” I’m thrilled that our beloved series is coming back for its final season, the excitement is real! In this new chapter, the pressure is on as the story unfolds. You might recall that billionaire Sir Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore) brought together a group of extraordinary kids and created The Umbrella Academy to protect the world. Fast forward to their teen years, they went their separate ways, but fate had other plans. Following Hargreeves’ demise, we find them reunited in their 30s.
The Umbrella Academy members – Luther (Tom Hopper), Diego (David Castañeda), Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman), Klaus (Robert Sheehan), Viktor/Vanya (Elliot Page), and Number Five (Aidan Gallagher) – reunite to unravel the mystery of his death one last time. With an impending global catastrophe at hand, they embark on a mission in Season 4 to locate Ben (Justin H. Min) and avert the imminent destruction of the world around them. Stream The Umbrella Academy Season 4 starting Aug. 8.
Pokémon Horizons: The Series (Part 3)
Stream on August 9
In an exciting turn of events, the third installment of “Pokémon Horizons: The Series” animation for kids is back, bringing joy to its young fan base. Unlike previous versions, this new season doesn’t focus on Ash and Pikachu’s journey. Instead, it introduces two new main characters, Liko (Minori Suzuki) and Roy (Yuka Terasaki), accompanied by Sprigatito and Fuecoco as their companions. Together, they embark on a new adventure discovering the wonders of the Pokémon world with the Rising Volt Tacklers.
As Liko journeys through different areas, a secretive group called the Explorers pursues her, intending to seize her enchanted locket. In quest of further clarification, she decides to visit her grandmother’s residence, where she may uncover her true purpose. (Pokémon Horizons: The Series Part 3 premieres on Aug. 9.)
Emily in Paris (Season 4 – Part 1)
Stream on August 15
In the new part of Season 4 for the romantic comedy “Emily in Paris,” starring Lily Collins as Emily, Emily’s personal life stays complex. Having relocated to Paris for a career chance, she puts maximum effort into sharing her American viewpoint and social media skills with a prestigious French marketing company.
As someone who’s been following Emily in Paris since the beginning, I can relate to how she feels as she tackles this new chapter in her life. Even with a master’s degree in communications under her belt, the cultural differences and the whirlwind of friends, work, and romance can still leave her reeling. But as we dive into Season 4 Part 1, premiering on Aug. 15, Emily starts to gain confidence in her single status. Her thoughts keep wandering back to Gabriel and Alfie though, which might just push her to make a clear-cut choice about her relationships with them.
Kaos (Season 1)
Stream on August 29
In a fresh take on Greek mythology, Kaos, a witty and dark comedy, introduces us to Jeff Goldblum’s portrayal of Zeus. This all-powerful god, despite his might, harbors insecurities. When he notices a wrinkle on his forehead, fearing the implications for his future, he lashes out at his subjects, punishing them for perceived threats to his power.
At the same time, a band of unsuspecting humans on Earth gradually uncover their significant roles in an ancient prophecy. With Zeus facing the imminent end of the world, dark comedy is sure to follow suit. The show features Janet McTeer, Cliff Curtis, David Thewlis, Killian Scott, Debi Mazar, and Aurora Perrineau. Start watching Kaos on Aug. 29.
