It’s widely believed that Eddie Munson emerged as one of the standout characters in the fourth season of Stranger Things, sparking much debate over his potential appearance in Stranger Things Season 5. However, given that he met a tragic end on screen, it seems unlikely that we’ll see him again.
However, fans persist in anticipating Eddie’s comeback, and it appears that several routes might bring the character back into the picture.
Theories about how Eddie Munson could return in Stranger Things Season 5
Flashbacks/ Dream Sequences
The theory that’s most likely to come true regarding Eddie’s reappearance is this: Although he has physically passed away, it’s possible we might see him in dream sequences or flashbacks. Many fans are convinced this will happen. Additionally, Eddie left a note for Dustin and had a unique bond with him. It could be that Eddie appears in Dustin’s thoughts, or perhaps even serves as Vecna’s means to torment Dustin.
The Eddie/Kas Theory
A growing idea proposes that Eddie shares some connection with Dungeons & Dragons, similar to the character Vecna. In the world of D&D, Vecna once had a lieutenant named Kas, who eventually betrayed him and contributed to his demise. This hypothesis postulates that Vecna might bring Eddie back to life (or transform him into a vampire) and make him his deputy. The trailer also hints at this theory with Eddie’s grave bearing the inscription “burn in hell.” This could be a clue supporting the theory.
Eddie is alive in Vecna’s Mindscape, and Eleven may bring him back
This idea implies that Vecna has imprisoned Eddie and his past victims within his mental realm. Should Eleven manage to vanquish Vecna, she could potentially free the vital energies he’s held captive. Additionally, a connected theory proposes that Eleven’s abilities might be potent enough to restore all the Upside Down’s victims. In either case, this theory leaves open the possibility of Eddie’s eventual return.
Stranger Things Season 5 may have time travel
It remains uncertain if the final season of the show will involve time travel, but given the massive tear in the fabric of the Upside Down, it’s possible that these rifts represent cracks in their reality. If so, this could pave the way for a time-travel storyline, which might significantly alter the narrative direction.
Fans’ speculation about Joseph Quinn’s enigmatic comments regarding Eddie and the surge in Eddie merchandise fuel their belief that he might reappear. Unfortunately, we won’t know if these assumptions are correct until Stranger Things Season 5 airs later this year.
