Everything Is Denim in Diesel’s Pre-Fall 2025 Collection

As a lifelong denim enthusiast who’s spent more time in jeans than out of them, I must say that Diesel’s Pre-Fall 2025 collection has me absolutely smitten! Renzo Rosso’s brand has always been a beacon of denim innovation, and Glenn Martens has taken it to new heights with this latest offering.

As a passionate admirer, I’d say at its heart, Diesel truly embodies denim. Starting from humble beginnings in 1978, Renzo Rosso, the visionary behind this iconic Italian alternative jeans brand, kick-started his enterprise by crafting denim trousers on his mother’s sewing machine and peddling them to friends. Since then, Diesel’s design ethos has revolved around challenging, reinventing, dismantling, and redefining the essence of this classic fabric.

Martens stated that this assembly is all about denim – encompassing tailoring, footwear, and even items artificially made to resemble denim. He emphasized that the classic image of denim should not be limited to five-pocket jeans; instead, we aimed to explore and expand the horizons of our primary fabric.

In every item within the collection, whether it’s jersey T-shirts, small tops, zip jackets, puffers, or those already made from genuine denim, they are all given a denim-like appearance. Throughout the range, Diesel presents a novel concept called “fluid denim,” which creates roomy tailored jackets and pants. Many of these pieces have been overdyed to create a tied effect, and their lightweight fabric allows them to hang well. Additionally, this “fluid denim” is also cut into oversized shirts that can be effortlessly knotted, tucked, or worn loose.

In a creative twist, psychedelic designs serve to create an optical illusion of denim on various garments such as knit tops, minidresses, scarf skirts, tracksuits, hoodies, T-shirts, and tanks. On the other hand, halterneck jumpsuits, panta-skirts, and biker shorts utilize authentic denim fabric. Additionally, distressed padded jackets deceive the eye with a jacquard weave that mimics torn denim, reminiscent of what was showcased on the Diesel Spring 2025 runway in Milan last September. Knitted pieces are given a glossy finish to resemble jeans, while jersey dresses flaunt trompe l’oeil denim prints. Classic footwear styles such as booties, loafers, sock-boots, and sandals are all dressed in the preferred denim fabric.

In Marten’s conclusion, he emphasized that the collection they have showcases groundbreaking fabric advancements, solidifying the notion that Diesel truly embodies denim, and conversely, denim encapsulates Diesel.
