As a devoted fan of Colleen Hoover’s enchanting storytelling, I can hardly contain my excitement as her literary masterpieces continue to grace our screens! Having been captivated by her novels since their initial publication, it’s truly heartwarming to witness their transformation into cinematic gems.
From the box office smash hit “It Ends With Us” to the upcoming adaptations of “Verity”, “Reminders of Him”, and “Regretting You”, Hoover’s literary world is expanding beyond my wildest dreams! The fact that Amazon MGM Studios, Universal Pictures, and Constantin Film are behind these projects gives me immense confidence in their successful execution.
I can hardly wait to see Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, Josh Hartnett, Allison Williams, McKenna Grace, and Dave Franco bring Hoover’s vivid characters to life on the big screen. The fact that Colleen herself is involved in some of these adaptations only adds to my anticipation!
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go re-read all of Colleen’s books one more time before the movies come out – just to make sure I haven’t missed any crucial details! And maybe, just maybe, I’ll even be able to predict which actor will play my favorite character… though I doubt anyone could possibly live up to the mental images I’ve created in my head. After all, they say you should never meet your heroes – but when it comes to Colleen Hoover, I can’t help myself!
For a while now, Colleen Hoover has been holding a significant influence in the literary realm, ultimately establishing herself as an author highly sought after in Hollywood.
The author of “It Ends With Us” has additional movie adaptations in development following the film’s box office triumph, earning $351 million globally. This success was achieved despite behind-the-scenes conflicts between lead actress Blake Lively and director-actor Justin Baldoni, as well as subsequent legal disputes. However, it’s unlikely that they will collaborate again for the adaptation of Hoover’s 2022 sequel novel, “It Starts With Us.
Despite ongoing legal disputes, progress on Colleen Hoover’s other film adaptations, such as “Verity”, “Reminders of Him”, and “Regretting You”, continues unabated. Although “It Ends With Us” may have been her largest adaptation so far, it wasn’t her first book to receive the Hollywood treatment. Previously, Hoover’s novel “Confess” was adapted into a seven-episode television series in 2017, with Katie Leclerc and Ryan Cooper in the lead roles for the defunct streaming service go90.
Before the launch of “It Ends With Us” in August, Colleen Hoover spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about her feelings regarding her work being adapted for the screen. She described it as feeling quite surreal. “I believe it’s due to all the emotions,” she said. “I can detach it, viewing the book and the movie as two entirely separate entities. Yet, I must admit that they did such a remarkable job compressing this novel into a film that I am extremely content with this adaptation.
Having spent years in the world of cinema, I’ve come to appreciate the excitement that surrounds the announcement of new film adaptations, and I’m particularly intrigued by those based on works by Arthur Conan Doyle, such as the upcoming Hoover productions. With a wealth of experience under my belt, I can say that these adaptations hold the potential to captivate audiences worldwide, much like their original stories did over a century ago.
‘Verity’
Amazon Studios, under the MGM banner, is currently working on a film adaptation of Hoover’s popular novel “Verity.” Michael Showalter is set to direct this project. The screenplay, at present, has been penned by Nick Antosca, who was inspired by the work of previous writers such as Hillary Seitz, Angela LaManna, and the duo Will Honley and April Maguire.
As for the cast, Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett are starring in the project.
Hoover published his book “Verity” independently in the year 2018. Later, in 2021, Grand Central Publishing took over the publication rights. Eventually, this novel ascended the ranks to become a top-seller on the “New York Times” bestsellers list.
The story revolves around Lowen Ashleigh, a hard-up writer who lands a job completing a book series written by Jeremy Crawford’s wife, Verity Crawford (Hathaway), after she met with an unexplained accident. Soon, Lowen discovers that an undiscovered draft could contain hints about the family’s less-than-ideal history.
A release date for Verity has yet to be announced.
‘Reminders of Him’
Come autumn of 2024, Universal Pictures obtained the film rights for “Reminders of Him,” a popular novel by author Hoover.
In this case, the movie version is being led by director Vanessa Caswill. The duo of Hoover and Lauren Levine are responsible for writing the script, and they’re additionally working as producers via their production company, Heartbones Entertainment.
2022 saw the release of “Reminders of Him“, a story centered around Keena Rowan, a mother struggling to rebuild her relationship with her four-year-old daughter, Diem, following her prison release. Previously, she had served five years for the unintentional killing of her boyfriend, Scotty, in a manslaughter case.
Previously, Hoover expressed his excitement as he finds ‘Reminders of Him’ equally close to his heart. He believes Universal Studios is the ideal choice to bring this story to life appropriately. Launching Heartbones Entertainment, his production company alongside partner Lauren Levine, they aim to create a unique piece that will delight everyone.
As someone who has been a movie enthusiast since I was a child, I’m absolutely thrilled to hear that the upcoming film is set to hit theaters in 2026! Growing up, I always dreamt of watching movies on the big screen and experiencing the magic of cinema firsthand. The fact that this particular film has no casting news yet doesn’t dampen my excitement in the least – I’ve learned over the years that the best movies are often those with a well-kept secret or two! With a release date already set, I can hardly wait to see what surprises await me on February 13th, 2026. The anticipation is already building, and I know this film is going to be one for the ages!
‘Regretting You’
The independent movie version of Hoover’s book “Regretting You” is being produced by Constantin Film, with Josh Boone, who directed “The Fault in Our Stars,” taking on the directorial role.
In the 2019 release “Regretting You,” we find ourselves exploring the intricate bond between mother and daughter, Morgan and Clara, who have differing aspirations and temperaments. Yet their lives become entwined when Morgan’s husband, also Clara’s father, is embroiled in a suspicious incident.
In this production, Allison Williams plays Morgan, while McKenna Grace portrays Clara. Additionally, Dave Franco will be among the cast members. The screenplay for the movie is being written by Susan McMartin.
A release date for the Regretting You adaptation has yet to be announced.
