Exciting News: ‘Masters of the Universe’ Reboot Filming Kicks Off Soon!

The star known for his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (as Copperhead in Captain America: Brave New World) has shared news about the imminent production of the long-awaited remake of the ’80s franchise. Specifically, filming for the Amazon movie is about to commence.

At the premiere for the MCU sequel, which has stirred quite a bit of debate, Jóhannesson shared some behind-the-scenes details about the upcoming “Masters of the Universe” movie. He discussed the preparations leading up to filming and the entertaining script that will bring a fresh perspective to the character of He-Man.

We began our preparations back in November, and filming should start within the next two weeks or so. So far, it’s been a lot of weight training and rehearsals, but we’re nearly ready to dive in! We’ve got an exciting script that the entire cast is looking forward to bringing to life on set.

He-Man’s Parents Have Now Been Found

Johan Haukur Johannesson, famed for roles in films such as Atomic Blonde, Bloodshot, and Infinite, is set to appear in Masters of the Universe as Malcolm, also known as Fisto – a formidable warrior characterized by his metal fist, second only in strength to He-Man himself. Initially hesitant to participate in the fight against Skeletor, Fisto later becomes one of He-Man’s most feared allies. The ensemble cast includes Nicholas Galitzine portraying Prince Adam (He-Man), Camila Mendes as Teela, Jared Leto as Skeletor, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson as Goat Man, Morena Baccarin as The Sorceress of Castle Grayskull, and MCU star Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms. According to a recent THR report, He-Man’s royal parents – King Randor and Queen Marlena – have been cast, with Charlotte Riley, known for her roles in Rome, Solomon Kane, Edge of Tomorrow, and London Has Fallen, stepping into these roles.

From a devoted fan’s perspective, historically, King Randor has remained oblivious to his son Prince Adam’s secret identity as He-Man. On the other hand, Queen Marlena, my beloved queen, has been intuitive about her son’s mysterious heroic endeavors. As for the upcoming Amazon reboot, it remains a tantalizing mystery whether this dynamic will hold true. Rumors swirl that the narrative will commence with Prince Adam being dispatched to Earth to safeguard himself, only to return to Eternia after two decades have passed.

The director behind both ParaNorman and Bumblebee, Travis Knight, has taken charge of the Masters of the Universe film. This project was previously halted at Netflix following years of development and an estimated investment of $30-60 million, but now Amazon MGM Studios will be in control. Chris Butler, a long-time collaborator of Knight (known for ParaNorman and Kubo and the Two Strings), has rewritten the script, which was originally penned by David Callaham and Aaron & Adam Nee. The Masters of the Universe movie is set to hit theaters on June 5, 2026.
