EXCLUSIVE: Aamir Khan reveals why he didn’t direct films after Taare Zameen Par: ‘If I turn director, I will quit acting’

Apart from being an exceptional actor, Aamir Khan is also a forward-thinking director who isn’t afraid to tackle unique and underrepresented themes in cinema. His recent film, Sitaare Zameen Par, has been generating buzz on social media. In a recent chat with TopMob, Aamir shared his reasons for stepping back from directing movies.

In his response to the question about why he hasn’t directed another movie since “Taare Zameen Par”, Aamir Khan expressed that his deep passion for acting is the cause of him not directing another film yet.

In addition to his remarks, the Dangal actor indicates that if he were to become a director, he would no longer act. He finds direction and filmmaking so captivating that acting might seem mundane to him. “I’m someone who can’t work when I get bored,” says Aamir.

60-year-old Aamir Khan explains that he didn’t initially plan to direct Taare Zameen Par, but a difficult situation pushed him towards it. In an open admission, Aamir shares that after his next directorial venture following Taare Zameen Par, he intends to step away from acting.

Additionally, it’s emphasized that Sitaare Zameen Par was Prasanna’s selection, and throughout this period, he consistently functioned as a director.

For those not familiar, Sitaare Zameen Par narrates the tale of a basketball coach named Gulshan, who guides a team of special needs children towards a championship. Alongside Aamir, the film features Genelia Deshmukh in the role of his wife within the movie. Hailed as the spiritual successor to Taare Zameen Par, it made its way into theaters on June 20.
