EXCLUSIVE: Arjun Kapoor discusses 'terrific' chemistry with Ranveer Singh in Gunday; says ‘Priyanka Chopra was out of our league…’

As a dedicated follower of Bollywood and a student of cinema, I find myself deeply moved by Arjun Kapoor’s recent reflections on his journey in the film industry. His conversation about Gunday, a film that marked significant milestones for him and Ranveer Singh, resonates with me not just as a fan, but also as someone who appreciates the artistry and craft behind each project.

The scene featuring Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in the newly released movie, Singham Again, has left audiences thoroughly impressed. In an exclusive interview with TopMob, Arjun reminisced about their previous project, Gunday. He highlighted their exceptional camaraderie and also acknowledged that having Priyanka Chopra on board for the film was a major coup, as she is well beyond their usual peer group.

In a recent interview for Behind the Success with TopMob, Arjun Kapoor reminisced about his 2014 movie Gunday, where he starred alongside Ranveer Singh. He shared that it was quite an impressive film to produce at the time they were given leading roles, considering they had only a couple of films under their belts. He explained, “The movie titled Gunday, which gave us such important roles when we were on the brink of perhaps our 2-3rd films. The way Ali (Abbas Zafar) directed us, how he filmed us, the manner in which he presented us, the music, the grandeur, the fashion, the attitude.

Regarding Priyanka Chopra and Irrfan Khan, who featured in the movie, Arjun commented, “Priyanka Chopra was a massive star… she remains so, however, my point is she was beyond our reach, much like her character in the film. Then came along Irrfan sir, an honor to work with him, to be his antagonist. Aditya Chopra (Adi sir), felt that this approach would resonate deeply with the audience.

Arjun similarly expressed the opinion that if released now, Gunday would carry more worth. He put it this way: “Back then, we were in a period dominated by multiplexes, tending to shy away from mass, mainstream content. However, Gunday is precisely what’s being applauded today; it’s action-packed, it’s over-the-top.

Regarding our chemistry with Ranveer Singh, Arjun stated, “It provided an opportunity for everyone to demonstrate that Ranveer and I share exceptional chemistry, which we continue to build upon today.

In our chat, Arjun Kapoor shared his delight about joining Rohit Shetty’s Cop Universe. He reminisced about the times they playfully speculated, while filming Gunday, that one day they would collaborate on a film directed by Rohit Shetty.

In the scene shared with Ranveer Singh in Singham Again, the actor commented, “I find what makes this scene interesting is the balance between yin and yang. I bring a sense of calmness and control, while he brings chaos and intensity. Our energies seem to complement each other exceptionally well, and this dynamic is beautifully captured on screen.
