EXCLUSIVE: Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai helmer Rakesh Roshan reveals how he found the iconic island for Hrithik Roshan, Ameesha Patel’s film; ‘I am very fond of…’

Movie director Rakesh Roshan introduced his son, actor Hrithik Roshan, to Bollywood through the hit musical romantic thriller “Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai” in 2000, alongside actress Ameesha Patel who also made her debut with this classic film. The combination of its star-studded cast, engaging plot, and memorable songs contributed to its enormous success. In the most recent installment of the Cult Creator Podcast hosted by TopMob, I, an uncontainable fanboy, was captivated as Rakesh Roshan shared insights about a legendary filming locale that sent shockwaves through the fanbase. The director revealed that during the production of Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, he ventured to Australia in search of a ship upon which he would film the movie. However, his quest for the perfect location was met with disappointment as numerous alternatives fell short of his expectations.

Initially, he spotted a photograph depicting a sailboat in Athens. However, on the same stand, there was another postcard showcasing rocks in the sea – that represented Krabi Island. Thus, traveling from Australia, he first landed in Phuket and later embarked on a four-hour drive to reach Krabi. “That location over there,” the filmmaker reminisced, “was the one I had been dreaming about.

In that same conversation, he additionally discussed his passion for filming in unique and scenic spots. The creator of Krrish expressed, “I have a strong affection for shooting at beautiful places. When I’m working on a movie, once the script is finalized, my initial action is to visit all possible locations. I often dream about these locations, and I will travel far and wide across the globe to find the location that matches the one in my dreams.
