As a lifestyle expert with a deep appreciation for Bollywood, I must say that Madhuri Dixit‘s journey is nothing short of inspiring. Her story behind the iconic song Ek Do Teen from Tezaab is a testament to her dedication and resilience in the industry.
One of Madhuri Dixit’s well-known and acclaimed songs is the iconic “Ek Do Teen” from the 1988 film, Tezaab. In a recent conversation with us, the actress shared that during the shoot, she told the director he wouldn’t be able to capture her close-ups because she was feeling ‘exhausted’.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve had the pleasure of reminiscing with Madhuri Dixit about her iconic number, “Ek Do Teen,” from the film Tezaab. When I brought up the classic images of her dance, she couldn’t help but laugh and admit, “Indeed, everyone recognizes this song.” She went on to express her gratitude, saying, “Yes, it’s Ek Do Teen, a number that continues to be played even today. I feel incredibly fortunate to still have that song as part of my career legacy.
Dixit confessed that the song remains the essence of every club, party, and Ganpati festival. When asked about the memorable story behind the iconic costume, Dixit fondly recalled, “Exactly 36 years ago, Leena Daru ji designed this outfit. They wanted it to be adorable, hence the small panels on the skirt and the one-sided style with a ponytail. As I danced, all my movements were like this (mimics dance movements), and they felt a little ponytail would complement it perfectly.

In her own words, the actress who played Devdas recalled the intense effort that went into filming the song. She said, “I vividly remember the first day on stage for this song’s shooting. It was astounding as they had constructed a set for us in advance, but we had been rehearsing for this number. By the end of the day, I was completely exhausted – we filmed all day and night, until 6:30 in the morning. The following morning, I went to Chandra ji (director N. Chandra) and confessed that I couldn’t shoot anymore. I was too tired, and they couldn’t take my close-ups.
She explained that he requested a long-range shot instead of a close-up. She mentioned that the four adjustments she made, resembling a runway walk, were carried out between 6:30 and 10:30 in the morning. At 10:30, they wrapped up for the day. They filmed continuously from morning till night, and at 10:30 they concluded, having completed the song. However, it’s important to note that the song was actually filmed over several days, she added in summary.
Directed by N Chandra, Tezaab starred Dixit, Anil Kapoor, Chunky Panday, and more.
