EXCLUSIVE: "My mom blessed that day and I was able to carve a career"; Arjun Kapoor talks about the most important 'Friday' of his life

As a lifestyle expert with a deep appreciation for the journeys of successful individuals, I find Arjun Kapoor‘s story incredibly inspiring. His resilience and dedication to his craft are truly commendable. His ability to weather the ups and downs of the film industry, without resorting to PR stunts or manipulation, is a testament to his character.

In 2012, Arjun Kapoor started his acting journey with the movie “Ishaqzaade” alongside Parineeti Chopra. This film marked the beginning of his career, and since then, he’s never looked back. With a mix of triumphs and setbacks, he’s only grown stronger. Currently, he’s enjoying the pinnacle of his life following the success of “Singham Again” at the box office. In an exclusive chat with TopMob, Arjun openly discussed his accomplishments, challenges, and even the tough times he faced.

Arjun Kapoor Recalls Not Being Able To Feel The Feeling Of His Debut Film, Because Of Losing His Mother A Month And A Half Earlier

In a conversation with TopMob post the premiere of Singham Again where Arjun Kapoor portrayed Danger Lanka, he was questioned about the transformation of an actor from one Friday to another and how he felt during his initial film release. The Ishaqzaade star provided a profound yet emotional response that left the crowd applauding and supporting him on numerous instances. Despite finding it challenging to express his feelings on his debut day, he attempted to do so. He explained, “My mom passed away 45 days prior, so I wasn’t feeling (myself). I did promotions only to get myself out there and keep myself preoccupied. The film was released; it didn’t strike me that my movie had come out and would be a part of my life forever. At that moment, I was merely going through the motions. However, I recall during Ishaqzaade, I visited YRF; I met Adi sir (Aditya Chopra), and Habib sir was present with Parineeti (Chopra) and he advised me to go to the theaters to observe the audience’s reaction because I was in a state of shock. Back then, reviews wouldn’t come so quickly”.

2012 saw no Instagram reviews available; now, we receive feedback even before the movie’s midpoint. Back then, it wasn’t until Saturday and Sunday that we learned about a film’s reception. Nowadays, you can gauge a movie’s popularity within the first three hours of its release! He exclaimed excitedly.

Arjun Kapoor Shares That He Went To Mumbai’s Iconic Gaeity Galaxy To Get Reactions For Ishaqzaade

He added, “I visited Gaeity Galaxy, a theater where I spent my childhood watching movies. I would often go to see films there with my mother. From Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge to Coolie No 1, I watched it all. That day, the audience was whistling during the song ‘Chokra Jawan’, and since no one recognized me then, it was a pleasant surprise. I was standing in a corner, and that moment made me realize that this could be my future.

Arjun Kapoor Talks About The Importance Of ‘Fridays’ In Every Actor’s Life

Arjun Kapoor explained the significance of Fridays for an actor and their film career. He stated, “In our line of work, every Friday is crucial… That one Friday (release of Ishaqzaade) transformed my life in every possible way – professionally, personally, emotionally. On that day, my mother blessed me and I found success in a field I truly love. I chose not to pursue formal education, but it turned out to be a wise decision. It was the biggest risk I ever took. When I saw Ishaqzaade at Gaeity and people recognized me, took photos, and spoke positively about me, I understood that I could support myself financially and emotionally. Moreover, I could make my parents proud.” He added, “Growing up, I spent countless nights watching movies. For me, films represent everything. So when that Friday came, it felt like a realization of my ability to provide for myself and my sister, not just financially but also emotionally, as I had lost my support system.

Arjun Kapoor Clears The Misconception That An Actor Is Not Working Hard Because Their Film Is Not Working

The actor from “2 States” dispelled the assumption that an underperforming film equates to lack of effort by an actor. He expressed, “People often assume you’re not dedicated when films fail. I can’t reveal my personal struggles to everyone. All I can do is keep working diligently. In today’s social media era, negativity garners more attention than positivity, which seems to be the trend now. I recall an audience in 2012 that showered me with love, who still desires my success; who wants to continue enjoying my performances and who continues to appreciate the contributions I made over the past 12 years – The good, the bad, and the ugly. I have been part of some quite enjoyable films. I’ve done decent work.

He explained, “I’m not saying I don’t get assignments, but I needed a break. I wanted to assure my audience that I value their time, money, and opinions. I strive to do my best with every project. As an actor, all you can do is give your best. You can’t control Fridays, only put in the hard work. Your successes and failures dictate your path. This Friday (release of Singham Again) felt like a validation that there’s always hope ahead. I’ve always been a fighter, and this Friday reinforced that you should keep fighting, even when life throws punches and hits at you.

Arjun Kapoor Speaks About Not Blowing The Trumpet When His Films Did Well At The Box Office

Arjun Kapoor openly discussed his choice to avoid using PR to magnify his achievements. He stated that over the course of 12 years, he has been involved in 20 films and never shied away from acknowledging both the triumphs and setbacks. Instead of boasting about being the first in his timeframe to have a Rs 100 crore film, he continued working diligently. After wrapping up 2 States, it was released, and he immediately moved on to shoot Tevar. Gunday debuted with an opening of Rs 16 crore, which is still a massive figure for any movie. This happened around 10 years ago. So he focused on moving forward rather than engaging in PR campaigns. Instead, he simply kept working because his mindset was to consistently work. If he’s getting roles, he’ll keep delivering quality work. It’s essential to be shooting one film while another is being released and the next one is lined up. This way, you can avoid being affected by release dates.

In simpler terms, “Arjun Kapoor stated that his family and he have faced both highs and lows. He also mentioned that he didn’t want to promise specific films in advance. Instead, he advised being spontaneous when good opportunities arise. Due to a lack of engaging and exciting projects, he had to step back for the past two years. However, ‘Singham Again’ came along at just the right time, and it was rewarding in the end.
