In 2023, we were first to announce that following the remarkable achievement of Gadar 2, Sunny Deol was planning to reintroduce the Border series. The creators recruited Anurag Singh as the director and developed a script that naturally progressed towards Border 2. Subsequently, the film grew even larger with the addition of Varun Dhawan and Diljit Dosanjh as the main actors. Labeled as India’s Grandest War film, production officially started in November 2024 for a release on Republic Day 2026. Now, we have learned exclusively that Border 2 is expanding further.
It’s been reported by sources connected to the project that prominent producer Bhushan Kumar has purchased the rights to the iconic song “Sandese Aate Hai” from its original owners at an unprecedented price, estimated to be over Rs 10 crore in the Northern region. A source privy to the development stated, “Sandese Ate Hai is the heart of Border, and the producer has gone all out to secure the rights for a record fee. This is the most substantial amount ever spent by a producer to recreate a tune, but Bhushan recognizes the significance of Sandese Aate Hai in Border, and is optimistic that the patriotic melody will generate significant returns in the future.” The song serves as a tribute to the Indian Army.
The ongoing work for Sandese Aate Hai 2.0 focuses on portraying the challenges faced by the Indian Military, blending the classic theme with contemporary flair. Originally performed by Sonu Nigam and Roop Kumar Rathod, the updated version will feature Sonu Nigam alongside Arijit Singh. This anticipated song is being marketed as a monumental piece of Indian cinema. The stars appearing in the music video are expected to include Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, and Diljit Dosanjh among others.
Production for Border 2 is moving at a rapid pace, with the team planning to complete filming by August 2025. The insider stated that we can expect this movie to release over the Republic Day weekend in 2026.
