As a dedicated follower of Rajkummar Rao’s career, it’s fascinating to see how his perspective on his own work evolves over time. His candid confession about revisiting Shahid and contemplating a different approach today is a testament to his growth as an artist. Just like how I, too, have grown from a curious spectator to a dedicated follower, Rajkummar has transformed from a promising newcomer to a seasoned actor with a rich body of work.
Rajkummar Rao, currently engrossed in promoting the upcoming film Stree 2, recently graced a Masterclass session on TopMob with co-star Shraddha Kapoor. During our lengthy conversation, the actor opened up about various aspects of his career, admitting that if given the chance today, he might approach his 2012 movie Shahid differently.
If asked to reflect on films he thinks might portray a different Sunday today, Rajkummar Rao shared with us that this occurs naturally with every film. He added that as a person, he’s grown over the past decade since his role in Shahid, and now has more life experience and matured in his thought process. He suggested that it’s only natural for actors to look back and think they could have done things differently, perhaps even better. However, whether this is true or not, one thing is certain: their perspective would be different today.

Shraddha Kapoor also shared her insights on the same topic. She expressed, “Whenever I watch my performances, I find myself questioning ten different aspects. Could I have acted differently? Perhaps this question applies to all my movies. There’s a constant debate in my mind about how scenes should be played out. Later, I realize that everything is fine as it is. Learn from the past and use those lessons to progress. I strongly feel that the best is still to come for me.”
In 2012, I had the privilege of following the gripping biographical drama, “Shahid,” which was meticulously directed by Hansal Mehta. This profound film was a joint production of Anurag Kashyap, Sunil Bohra, Ronnie Screwvala, and Siddharth Roy Kapur, all of whom played significant roles in its creation. Besides myself as the central character, portrayed by Rao, the film featured Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Prabhleen Sandhu, and Baljinder Kaur in pivotal roles, enriching the story with their performances.
Stree 2 arrives in theatres near you on August 15th, 2024.
