EXCLUSIVE: Was Sneha Ullal cast in Lucky because she resembled Aishwarya Rai? Makers reveal truth

Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, two movie directors known for their work with Salman Khan on Lucky: No Time for Love, discussed the process of selecting Sneha Ullal for the film in an interview with Hindi Rush. Despite Sneha’s striking resemblance to Aishwarya Rai at that time, the filmmakers emphasized that casting someone who looked like Aishwarya was not a strategic decision, but rather a coincidence that persisted throughout Sneha’s short-lived career in the industry.

During an interview with Hindi Rush, the filmmakers were inquired about the strong similarity between actress Sneha and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and if her selection was intentionally planned as part of a strategic move.

They explained that the decision wasn’t based on a specific strategy. Instead, they were interested in introducing a newcomer. Arpita Khan (Salman’s sister) suggested a girl from her college whom she found particularly attractive. This girl was being considered for a role as a schoolgirl whose parents worked at an embassy. The character needed to exude the feeling of someone who had lived in Europe, and she seemed to fit the part perfectly.

They pointed out that they noticed the story was changing over time, yet emphasized that no one could be compared fairly to someone as captivating as Aishwarya.

The pair commented, “Occasionally while filming, we saw a likeness, but there are countless individuals who resemble others. We didn’t find the similarity particularly noteworthy, but when the campaign began and people started mentioning it, that’s when we realized. It wouldn’t be truthful to say we never considered it, but it wasn’t a significant concern. It’s flattering to be compared to Aishwarya Rai.

Back in the day, when I sat down for an interview with IANS, I spilled some tea about something near and dear to my heart – the tales spun around my looks, which weren’t exactly crafted by me. That credit goes to some clever publicists who had a knack for storytelling!

As Sneha stated, she has always felt at ease with herself and the likenesses drawn to Aishwarya Rai didn’t faze her. However, Sneha also pointed out that the public relations strategy was instrumental in amplifying those comparisons, turning it into a more significant issue than it potentially could have been without such emphasis.
