‘F1: The Movie’ Director Joseph Kosinski Reveals Why Simone Ashley’s Role Was Cut From Film

Joseph Kosinski, director of the movie “F1”, is shedding light on the reasons behind the removal of Simone Ashley’s character from the final version of the film.

Last year’s news confirmed that an actress from ‘Bridgerton’ had signed up for a Formula One racing series, sharing screen time with Brad Pitt and Damson Idris. At that point, specifics about her character were kept under wraps.

Last year it was revealed that the Bridgerton actress would appear in a Formula One racing drama alongside Brad Pitt and Damson Idris, but the particulars of her role were not disclosed then.

In every movie, there’s always more footage shot than can be included, as Kosinski explained to People magazine regarding Ashley’s reduced role in ‘F1: The Movie’. Essentially, there were multiple plot threads that didn’t survive the editing process for the final version.

In a recent statement, the director of “Top Gun: Maverick” said, “Simone is an extraordinarily talented actress, singer, and performer. I truly hope I get the chance to collaborate with her once more.

In the film, Ashley makes a short appearance without speaking any lines; the cast includes Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, Tobias Menzies, and Kim Bodnia as well.

The Film revolves around Pitt’s character, Sonny Hayes, an ex-Formula One driver, who decides to return from retirement and partner with a promising young racer, Idris’ Joshua Pearce, in a coaching role. Notably, real-life Formula One drivers appear as special guests throughout the movie.

Despite not publicly commenting on why her role was cut from the film, Ashley had mentioned earlier this month to Elle magazine that working on the project was quite unusual. She expressed gratitude for being included in the movie, noting that she only has a minor part.

I’ve had the chance to race numerous Grand Prix events, and I can tell you, I don’t believe I’ll ever find an adrenaline rush quite like that again.” (First-person perspective as a gamer who is talking about their virtual racing experiences)

F1: The Movie starts playing in theaters on June 27.
