Faith-Based ‘King of Kings’ Sets Easter 2025 Release in Theaters

As a long-time admirer of animated films and the profound impact they can have on audiences, I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming release of “The King of Kings”. The combination of timeless storytelling, renowned talent behind the microphone, and the intriguing blend of contemporary animation techniques with biblical themes is a recipe for an unforgettable cinematic experience.

The King of Kings is set to rise next Easter.

Blue Harbor Entertainment plans to distribute a faith-based animated film across North America in theatres during the Easter season next year. While they haven’t specified an exact release date yet, Easter Sunday will be falling on the weekend of April 18th-20th, 2023.

The movie is inspired by Charles Dickens’ posthumously published short story, “The Life of Our Lord.” This narrative explores the life and era of Jesus Christ. Kenneth Branagh lends his voice to the role of Dickens, while Oscar Isaac narrates as Jesus. Ben Kingsley, Forest Whitaker, Uma Thurman, Mark Hamill, Pierce Brosnan, and Roman Griffin Davis are among the other notable voices featured in this production.

The story revolves around a multi-layered journey that Charles Dickens embarks on together with his son, Walter. During this journey, as suggested by the plot summary, “the renowned narrator invigorates his young son’s creative mind with the captivating life of Jesus, his famous challenges and triumphs, and his significant associates and adversaries.

Seong-ho “Jay” Jang serves as the director for the animated film titled “The King of Kings“, hailing from the renowned South Korean animation studio, Mofac Animation.

Religious films have been successful at the box office, in part because they effectively engage their dedicated fanbase. Angel Studios, who distributed “Sound of Freedom”, operate under a system known as ‘pay-it-forward’, where individuals can purchase tickets on behalf of others.

Jang points out that Blue Harbor recognized the inherent worth of this movie and its chances for faith-based engagement, and proposed a flexible, filmmaker-friendly business plan. This strategy would offer extensive reach to families, animation enthusiasts, and the anticipated welcome of hundreds of millions of Christians throughout the country.

In their role as a distributor, Blue Harbor has supported the documentaries – ‘Street Gang: Our Journey to Sesame Street’ and the forthcoming ‘The Herricanes’, which delves into the story of a 1970s women’s football league that played full tackle football.

Jang collaborated on the screenplay for “King of Kings” alongside Rob Edwards, who also worked on “The Princess and the Frog”. Anfernee Kim, known for “Last Knights”, takes on the role as producer. In addition to this, Jamie Thomason, a seasoned voice and casting director from “Spirited Away”, and Andrew Mann, an experienced filmmaking executive from “Gold”, serve as executive producers.
