Family Equality’s Night at the Pier has added some freshly minted Tony nominees to its program.
Actors Darren Criss (“Perhaps a Happy Ending”), Cole Escola (“Oh, Mary”), Megan Hilty (“Death Takes a Holiday”), and Nicole Scherzinger (“Sunset Boulevard”) are set to perform at a charity event taking place at New York’s Pier Sixty on May 12. According to the organization, Criss, Hilty, and Scherzinger will take the stage for a performance, while Escola will make an appearance during a program that will also include Demi Moore, Debbie Harry, Bill T. Jones, Jim Obergefell, and Marlo Thomas.
It was previously announced that Jason Weinberg, Uber-manager and co-founder of Untitled Entertainment, along with his screenwriter husband Merritt Johnson, will be honored with the prestigious Luigi Caiola Luminary Award. Meanwhile, Peggy Gillespie, who is the co-founder and director of Family Diversity Projects, has been chosen to receive the Hostetter-Habib Family Award, which will be presented by acclaimed choreographer Jones.

Despite the news highlighting decreasing donations and sponsors withdrawing from Pride and LGBTQ+ initiatives, our fully-booked event paints a contrasting picture. The support is genuine, the community is robust, and when people unite, we can shift even the most formidable obstacles.
For the occasion, Neil Patrick Harris, David Burtka, and Nick Scandalios have been appointed as honorary chairs. The honorary committee consists of Kristin Caskey, Bruce Cohen, Gabe Catone, John Gore, Kevin Huvane, Jef Kaplan, Amanda Green, Bryan Lourd, Bruce Bozzi, Joe Machota, Michael Russell, Margo and James L. Nederlander, Zac Posen, Harrison Ball, Lauren Reid, Daryl Roth, and Robert E. Wankel. The funds raised during Night at the Pier will be directed towards Family Equality’s mission to promote legal and everyday equality for LGBTQ+ families across the nation.
