Fans Are Losing Their Minds Over This Hidden Darth Maul Reference in Andor Season 2!

The prequel series to Disney+’s “Rogue One” within the Star Wars universe is widely acclaimed as one of the best series ever created. Boasting a whopping budget of $650 million for 24 episodes spread across two seasons, it appears that no corner was cut in production, not even minor details potentially overlooked by viewers.

In the course of the series, Andor’s production designer, Luke Hull, revealed an intriguing Easter Egg that might have been missed by viewers. Similar to a “Hidden Mickey” in Disney productions, there was a concealed image within a mural that appeared on the show. Hull unveiled this hidden picture through a post on his account.

Fan Reaction to the Mosaic

In a mural depicting a Ghorlectipod, or Ghorman spider from the planet Ghorman, a careful observer will notice that the body of the spider resembles the formidable figure of the “Star Wars” antagonist – Darth Maul. Previously on Twitter, a user pointed out that this intricate pattern was intentionally designed as a tribute to Darth Maul.

In his post, Jammin333 praised a stunning spider mosaic from the Ghorman cafe, which seems to depict the character Darth Maul, who transformationally became half cyber-spider during The Clone Wars. The design details, even down to the crescent moon shaped chin, were noted by Jammin333 as something they loved. Luke Hull, the production designer for Andor, shared this beautiful artwork.

A Darth Maul Show is in Development

Back in the year that just passed, I got some exciting news from Lucasfilm about an upcoming series called “Maul – Shadow Lord.” This intriguing production will see Sam Witwer lending his voice to the iconic character of Darth Maul, a role he previously brought to life in “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.” As of now, we’re looking at a 2026 premiere on Disney+. Can hardly wait!

In the year 1999, the character Darth Maul made his initial appearance. Back then, Ray Park portrayed him in live action, while Peter Serafinowicz provided his voice.

Showrunner Talks the Show’s Huge Budget

As a die-hard film enthusiast, I recently had the chance to delve deeper into my favorite shows thanks to an interactive experience that uncovered intricate details, such as the spider mural, during a Q&A session last month at the ATX Television Festival.

Gilroy stated, as reported by , ‘For Disney, that’s a significant $650 million.’ Throughout 24 episodes, I didn’t receive a single note. In the first season, we boldly declared ‘Defy the Empire,’ and they asked us to tone it down. During Season 2, they mentioned budget constraints, saying ‘Streaming is no longer profitable as it once was.’ We fought hard over money, but they never interfered with our creative process. With such freedom comes great responsibility.

The production cost of Andor surpassed Rogue One by a factor of more than three, given that the latter was estimated to have been made for around $200 million.

Gilroy Addresses the Series’ Political Themes

Contrary to the notion that streaming is “dead,” the series “Andor” on Disney+ has thrived, and one reason for this success is its powerful political messaging. The show, starring Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, appears to have struck a chord with viewers.

As a follower, I can’t help but reflect on Genevieve O’Reilly’s address to the senate in the series and her insightful remarks about the word “genocide.” The showrunner expressed his sentiment, saying, “It’s truly disheartening to see how some people find a way to give meaning to this term.” In a similar vein, I’ve recently noticed an increase in the use of the word “fascism” in our show. This change has been both eye-opening and empowering for me as it allows us to shed light on important issues that resonate with our audience. Using words like these feels liberating within the context of our production.

Gilroy stated that it shouldn’t come as a shock or be difficult to grasp the path he needs to follow to accomplish this, in order to grow the audience and safeguard the daring investment of this company. He further emphasized that this journey should not seem slippery or overly complex.
